Late last year, it was announced that ‘E.R.’, ‘Stargate Universe’, and ‘Mulan’ star Ming-Na Wen would be joining Marvel and Joss Whedon’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ as Agent Melinda May, one of the valuable members of Agent Phil Coulson’s team. Since then, we’ve gotten a lot of random details and an official trailer depicting the team in action, but we haven’t really had much of a chance to focus on individual characters other than Clark Gregg’s fan favorite agent. But recently, Wen opened up about hers at the Saturn Awards.
In an interview with SFX (via Coming Soon), Wen started off her conversation about the upcoming ABC show by describing her character and what makes Agent May different than her teammates:
“I think she definitely honors her job and she takes it very seriously and she has a lot of skills to reach level 7. But from what I gather she has some damage, she’s like a damaged soldier. I think she’s definitely one of the more season/experienced agents in this crew.”
After touching on the role of ‘The Avengers’ director after the show received it’s series order, she also goes into what the audience should come to expect from the show once it premieres in the fall:
“I think for the die hard fans who know Joss Whedon’s work as well as the Marvel series and all the movies, I think the will have a certain expectation which we will be able to deliver as far as sense of humor, as far as the camaraderie of the characters and the action. But I think the one big surprise is because it’s now been translated for television, it’s just the continuous development of these characters on a weekly basis and hopefully they’ll be able to be more invested in these characters and what happens to them.”
For the whole interview where she brings up the possibility of the new agents appearing elsewhere in Phase Two, take a look at this video:
Though Wen went into some previously unmentioned areas, we’re sure to get a lot more of that sort of information once ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ takes the stage at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con later this month.
Marvel’s first live-action show to take place in their cinematic universe, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ starring Brett Dalton, Ming-Na Wen, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Chloe Bennet, and Clark Gregg can be found on Tuesdays at 8:00pm on ABC.
