Chris Evans was among the cast of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ that gathered, along with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, directors Joe and Anthony Russo, and Jon Favreau, who helmed ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Iron Man 2’, and portrays Happy Hogan in various films, for the official ‘Endgame’ press conference. Not that the 22nd Marvel Studios picture needs help getting publicity. Its tickets became the fastest selling pre-sale tickets ever in the span of just six hours.
In an amusing touch, at the press conference, the creators and actors were scattered on stage amid an equal number of empty chairs meant to symbolize the absence of those that were turned to dust at the end of ‘Infinity War’.
While, as expected, nothing significant was revealed about ‘Endgame’– which is probably in keeping with fans’ wishes– each actor was given the spotlight to discuss their character and their place within the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A huge question mark lingers over the head of Chris Evans, who has played Captain America since 2011’s ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’. In October, Evans raised eyebrows when he posted a heartfelt “goodbye” to the role on Twitter after he’d wrapped reshoots for ‘Endgame’, which many interpreted as confirmation that Evans would not be back in the role. That’s not a total shock as his contract is up and he has publically expressed a desire to pursue other opportunities.
When his time to speak at the press conference came, Evans nervously asked, “I can give broad strokes, right?”
He then stated:
“It’s the completion of the arc. This film does kind of provide an ending to a lot of ….”
“EEEEHHHHH!”
Evans was cut off by director Joe Russo, imitating the sound of a buzzer.
So Evans simply announced:
“I’m done. [Cap]’s just been through so much…”
While some may hope to see Steve Rogers again in the Marvel Universe, no one is holding their breath. If this is Evans’ MCU swansong, hopefully, the film does him justice.
‘Avengers: Endgame’ assembles in theaters on April 26.
