‘Avengers: Endgame’ has the potential to be a truly pivotal moment for the MCU, a time when fans may see the end of some of the heroes who helped launch the franchise, and have to say goodbye to the actors who played these heroes for almost a decade (or in the case of Robert Downey Jr., over a decade). On the top of the list of characters most likely to end their MCU careers in ‘Endgame’ are Iron Man and Chris Evan’s Captain America, the latter of which has been talking about wanting to start working more behind the camera and end his tenure as Captain America for some time now. And with the thought that this might be the final movie with Evan’s Steve Rogers as the leader of the Avengers, recently The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Evans and had him answer some fan questions, including things like what souvenirs did he get to take from the franchise (apparently he has Captain America’s shield and a headpiece.)

When asked what his favorite scene was that he filmed as Captain America, Evans did not hesitate to give an answer, the scene being one that many fans would agree with:
“I’m partial to that fight scene in the elevator. That was the first scene in the second Captain America movie. It was my first time working with the Russos. It was the first time where it felt like Cap was on his own. The first cap movie, you really feel like everyone was holding my hand. The first Avengers movie I just did my best not to get in the way. The second Cap movie is the one where I really felt, I suppose pressure, and that first elevator fight scene came out really great in my opinion.”
The elevator fight scene has indeed become iconic in the MCU, both in films and in television, where it felt like even shows like ‘Daredevil,’ ‘Luke Cage,’ and ‘Iron Fist,’ were always trying to do their version of an intense fight in an enclosed area, which for the Netflix/MCU series, became known as their “hallway” fight scenes.
The one in ‘Winter Soldier,’ however, just had something special about it, which even the filmmakers seemed to realize as that was the first scene they showed to the public, being a teaser scene shown in theaters leading up to the film’s premiere.
Of course, ‘The Winter Soldier,’ in general, set the bar pretty high for outstanding action and well-choreographed fight-scenes, and really helped sell what an excellent fighter Captain America had become, and why he was a superhero a level above the rest. It will truly be sad to see him go, if that is his fate after ‘Endgame,’ and if he dies in that movie, here’s hoping the Russo’s have managed a proper send-off for the character, though I imagine they would make sure of it since the character did not really come into his own until they stepped in to direct ‘The Winter Soldier,’ and I’m sure they have a certain affection for both Cap and Chris Evans.
