Even though Sony hasn’t made an official announcement, Michelle Williams says she will be back for ‘Venom 2’, which we now know is being directed by motion-capture ace Andy Serkis. While promoting her new movie, ‘After the Wedding’, she succinctly told Yahoo! “I’m in.” She further went on to express how anxious she was to work with Serkis.
“I’m such a fan of Andy’s, and I’m so inspired by what he’s been able to accomplish. He’s so gifted in such a specific way, and I’m very excited to learn from him and be around him.”
Williams appears to have signed on for multiple pictures to begin with, as she joked in January, “They have to pay me either way,” when speaking to MTV:

In ‘Venom’, Williams played Anne Weying, a district attorney and the ex-fiancée of Tom Hardy‘s Eddie Brock. Brock becomes fused with an alien symbiote leading to wacky misadventures as Venom. For fans of the comics, Williams’ character even experienced a moment of possession as She-Venom, something that happened in the books.
Williams hopes to undergo the transformation once again in the sequel.
“I just bit that guy’s head off… I hope I get equal time that way — I can say that!”
Brock may need her help, as he will be facing Woody Harrelson as Carnage, a serial killer who gets his own killer symbiote, and unlike Brock, uses it to commit additional murders and mayhem.
‘Venom’ was a rare commercial move for Williams, who typically sticks to indie pictures and prestige films. She has been nominated for four Academy Awards, for ‘Brokeback Mountain’, ‘Blue Valentine’, ‘My Week With Marilyn’, and ‘Manchester by the Sea’. On the flipside, ‘Venom’ was trashed by critics, but was a major financial success despite that, earning $856 million at the box office.
‘Venom 2’ is expected in theaters on October 2, 2020.
