Venom tom hardy

Tom Hardy recently made some waves while speaking about ‘Venom.’ In a recent interview, he made it seem like there were about 40 minutes or more of cut scenes from the movie with material that he felt should have been in the film. This made some fans believe this might actually be scenes that were supposed to be used for an “R” rated version of ‘Venom.’

In his words:

“There are like 30 to 40 minutes worth of scenes that aren’t in this movie… all of them. Mad puppeteering scenes, dark comedy scenes. You know what I mean? They just never made it in.”

However, producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach told Comicbook.com that:

“There isn’t some phantom version of the movie. Everyone is asking us that. Is there an R-rated cut sitting there? There isn’t.”

And more recently, to clarify the comments he made before, and to settle down those fans worried that he thinks good scenes were cut from the movie or does not think the film is any good, Hardy told IGN:

“What I’m saying is that I had a lot of time improvising and a lot of time playing with Venom so in honesty there’s probably about seven hours or more of the footage with me playing as Venom and enjoying myself. I took him right out there and played with it and had a lot of fun because there’s a lot of fun you can have with a project and with this character and I’ve done that. And me, and the other executive producers know full well that has nothing to do with the story, but nevertheless would I like to watch a seven hour version of Venom? Yep, but that’s just me as an actor but the truth of it is everything that we wanted is in the story Everything I want is in the story and more and the film is awesome and I’m excited and I just want to shoot a sequel.”

However, there is an extra scene not in the movie, but apparently added to the credits, that director Ruben Fleischer is excited about, as it could hint toward a Spider-Man crossover one day. In his words, while speaking to Comicbook.com:

“I think there’s a pretty obvious one inherent to the Venom franchise that for whatever reason couldn’t be included in the film. But I will say that I look forward to future movies where said character could perhaps run across Venom. Nothing would be more exciting to see than a face-off with Spider-Man.”

Clearly, what makes it into a movie is entirely at the discretion of the director, editor, and producers, and I suppose the studio, but it is interesting to see how there is already discussion about what is missing from ‘Venom’ when the film is not even out yet. Hopefully, this is just Hardy being overly excited about the film and the stuff he shot, and not actual disappointment about what was cut, followed by a retraction so he does not hurt opening weekend numbers. You never know nowadays.
