Another company has weighed in as to why they believe Netflix canceled both Marvel’s ‘Iron Fist‘ and ‘Luke Cage‘ with news that won’t be good for fans that were still hoping it was to bring us ‘Heroes For Hire.’ Jumpshot is an analytics service which tracks over five billion actions per day across over 100 million devices. While they don’t have direct insight into Netflix viewership metrics, they do have data to the US market for quite a few devices out there.
The culprit, according to the company, was poor viewer retention. For the users that the service tracks, both shows lost over two-thirds of their viewers between the first and second seasons. ‘Iron Fist’ lost a whopping 64 percent with ‘Luke Cage’ fairing lightly better in retention having only lost 59 percent.
For a company based around keeping viewer eyes on their properties, this isn’t a good sign for the shows.

The numbers listed are a good indicator as to why the two shows ended up being dropped and likely don’t bode well for the two heroes to return down the line. While we can still hope that an executive is willing to give ‘Heroes for Hire’ a chance, it seems like Iron Fist and Luke Cage could be regulated to background characters in future ‘Daredevil,’ ‘Jessica Jones’, and ‘The Punisher’ episodes if they even reappear at all.
One would hope that with the cliffhangers we were left with that they would find a way to close out both of these stories even as a news clipping in the shows which don’t end up canceled.
