It’s only Day 1 of SDCC and the huge news bombs are already dropping. One such story coming out of San Diego revolves around a possible new movie in the DC Universe. According to Deadline , Ben Affleck is reportedly teaming up with the one and only Geoff Johns to co-write a standalone ‘Batman’ movie. Affleck is suspected to not only co-wrote, but also direct and star in this new film venture after he finishes up with his current projects.
For the fans of the comic books out there, you may recognize Johns not only as DC’s Chief Creative Officer, but also as a writer for many DC comic books including Aquaman, Green Lantern, Batman, Superman, The Flash and more! Johns has also written for TV including ‘Smallville’ ‘Arrow’ and ‘Supergirl,’ and thus has more than proven his talent in the writing arena.
The new Dynamic Duo of Affleck and Johns are anticipated to turn in a first script by the end of summer, and the plot will reportedly be set after the ‘Batman V Superman’ and ‘Justice League’ timelines. Between Affleck’s award winning directing and recent box office hits and Johns’ history at DC and past television works, this team has the potential to make one of the most epic Batman films yet. If the sources are correct and this ‘Batman’ will be set after ‘Justice League,’ we’re looking at a release date set for some time in 2018 (‘Justice League’ is set to come out November 17, 2017). While this news is still developing, we’ll keep following this story and keep you updated as we get more information.
