For years fans of Oscar Isaac have wanted him to play a live version of Gomez Addams with how similar he looks to Raul Julia, and now it looks as if he’ll finally be playing the character! Well, voicing him at least. It looks as if the ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘ actor is in final negotiations with MGM to voice the patriarch of ‘The Addams Family‘ in a new animated film which had first been announced in 2013.
While at this time there has been no other casting announcements made, there has been a long desire by many to see Isaac tackle this particular part. It is a shame that it will be animated and not live-action, but it is, for sure, a start. Little is known about what MGM is doing with the movie, but we do know it will be directed by Conrad Vernon (‘Sausage Party’) and has a planned release date of October 11th, 2019. Plenty of time to shore up the rest of the details in the coming months.
‘The Adams Family’ was originally illustrated by Charles Addams in The New Yorker before becoming a long running and popular TV sitcom in the 60s which featured John Astin as Gomez. In more recent years there were two live-action films in the 90’s where Julia made waves playing the character before his tragic death in 1994.
I’m hoping they stick with the original spiel that the Addams are worth billions so can just go on eccentric adventures and not have to deal with losing or reclaiming their vast fortune. That plot truly felt as if it took away from the films the last time they went that direction. One can only hope that this new animated film will be able to recapture the magic for one more outing.
