DC is getting set to deliver its biggest fan experience ever with DC Fandome, a virtual convention that will cover everything from the comics to television to film and will feature appearances from some major stars from all fields. Fans of DC Comics and its various media had to have been disappointed that none of them were presented at San Diego Comic-Con’s virtual con this year. Instead, the WarnerMedia DC empire is holding its own virtual con, DC Fandome, on August 22. This event will take place for 24 hours. At least from the look of things, DC Fandome will be a more interactive experience (I really don’t need to see another Zoom panel) and “attendees” will be able to explore various virtual areas and get teases from upcoming projects like the movies ‘Aquaman’ (the sequel or the movie that came out two years ago?), ‘The Batman’, ‘Black Adam’, ‘The Suicide Squad’, ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, and HBO Max’s re-edit ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’; and the TV shows ‘Batwoman’, ‘Doom Patrol’, ‘Lucifer’, and ‘Pennyworth’. While most eyes have been on San Diego Comic-Con’s Comic-Con@Home this weekend, an alternate virtual gathering has also taken place– Justice Con, dedicated mainly to Zack Snyder’s version of ‘Justice League’. In May, WarnerMedia’s new streaming service announced that Snyder would edit together a cut of ‘Justice League’ that was true to his original vision, as opposed to the one that Joss Whedon crafted, which is the version released in theaters. Though there aren’t any details yet, a virtual table read of George Miller’s aborted ‘Justice League: Mortal’ will be held for charity. Along with ‘Superman Lives’/’Superman: Flyby’, ‘Batman Unchained’, and ‘Super Max’ (starring Green Arrow), this is one of those potentially great DC Comics movies that never got made, although its basic plot has been public knowledge for years now. In 2015, filmmaker Ryan Unicomb announced plans for a documentary that would delve deep into this unmade film, but it failed to materialize. Earlier this year, Unicomb announced that production on the doc would resume, under a new title, ‘Seven Friends: George Miller’s Justice League’. But until then, this table read may suffice if you’ve ever had any questions about this project. Voice performer Shannon Farnon teased the table read with a post on her Facebook page: ‘Justice League: Mortal’ was on the verge of filming in Australia in 2007, when a writers’ strike derailed it. ‘Justice League: The Snyder Cut’ Will Become A Reality On HBO Max!

Perhaps the longest fan social media campaign ever has finally paid off, as Warner Brothers will release “The Snyder Cut” of the box office disappointment ‘Justice League’ via HBO Max. Zack Snyder himself made the bombshell announcement following a Vero Watch Party for one of his other WB DC movies, ‘Man of Steel’. Warner Brothers will spend an additional $20-30 million on “The Snyder Cut” for added special effects, score, and editing. It doesn’t appear that any reshoots will be done, even though Snyder reportedly had plans for some additional scenes which were not filmed, for instance, a Martian Manhunter cameo. However, it is believed that some of the cast will be brought back to record some new dialogue. “The Snyder Cut” will be released in 2021 and will allegedly be four hours long (!) or may be broken up into a six-hour miniseries (!!). ‘Justice League Dark: Apokolips War’ Will Be The Last Movie In This DC Animated Universe

Well, as the headline reads, the upcoming animated film ‘Justice League Dark: Apokolips War’ will be the last set in this DC shared universe. This cycle kicked off with ‘Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox’ in 2013, which was followed by ‘Justice League: War’, ‘Son of Batman’, ‘Justice League: Throne of Atlantis’, ‘Batman Vs. Robin’, ‘Batman: Bad Blood’, ‘Justice League vs. Teen Titans’, ‘Justice League Dark’, ‘Teen Titans: The Judas Contract’, ‘Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay’, ‘The Death of Superman’, ‘Reign of the Supermen’, ‘Batman: Hush’, and ‘Wonder Woman: Bloodlines’. Of course, there have been multiple DC animated movies released during this time that have not been connected to this shared universe, and Warner Bros. Animation will continue to create and release original DC animated flicks– they will just be free-standing. There is also the possibility that they could establish a new shared universe with a different art style and direction. WB Assembles Its Largest Voice Cast Ever For The Epic Animated Movie ‘Justice League Dark: Apokolips War’

Heroes of Earth beware! Darkseid is coming back for his revenge at long last. Warner Bros. Animation marks six years of interwoven DC movies by delivering what sounds like the biggest yet. Based on the New 52 relaunch, things kicked off with ‘Justice League: War’, which adapted the first storyline from that version of the ‘Justice League’ comic book, showing the formation of the team (and the origin of Cyborg) to stave off an invasion by Darkseid and his Parademons. Now he’s bringing payback in the new movie ‘Justice League Dark: Apokolips War’ and part of the voice cast has been announced. Tony Todd (‘Candyman’) reprises the voice of Darkseid. Todd previously voiced the despot in ‘Reign of the Supermen’. (Steve Blum voiced him in ‘War’.) Super Saturday: ‘The All-New Super Friends Hour’ (1977) – The Justice League Returns To The Small Screen

The first season of ABC’s ‘Super Friends’ aired during the 1973-74 season, but was not renewed for a second. But after some of ABC’s new Saturday morning shows failed, the network began rerunning ‘Super Friends’ and the strong ratings inspired the network to order a new season from Hanna-Barbera. But big changes occurred. The first season was an hour-long, but that was one hour-long story. And due to pressure from the group ACT (Action for Children’s Television), the show was devoid of any violence or excitement. Episodes had an overall environmental slant, and most of the time, the antagonists weren’t evil, but misguided. (It was a snooze.) Luckily, that scrutiny was relaxed by 1977 when ‘The All-New Super Friends Hour’ premiered. In the new episodes, the heroes actually confronted real villains, motivated by greed and power. They still weren’t allowed to physically strike them, but the episodes were still faster-paced and more exciting, and the focus was on the heroes themselves, not the sidekicks, as had been the case before. Fans may get a little more ‘Aquaman’ before the release of the live-action ‘Aquaman 2’ in winter 2022. At the TWC press tour, the upcoming streaming service announced that it had ordered a three-episode animated miniseries entitled ‘Aquaman: King of Atlantis’, which will be executive produced James Wan, the director of the superhero’s 2018 box office hit, which starred Jason Momoa in the title role. Wan produces via his Atomic Monster production company. Each of these three episodes will be a standalone story, and it appears that the tales kick off shortly after the first film. The first episode focuses on Arthur Curry’s first day on the job as King of Atlantis. Via EW: “He’s got a LOT of catching up to do. Luckily, he has his two royal advisors to back him up – Vulko, the scholar, and Mera, the water controlling warrior-princess. What Was The One Idea For ‘Harley Quinn’ That DC Comics Shot Down?

DC Universe has a certified hit on its hands with ‘Harley Quinn’ the adults-only animated series starring the longtime Batman villain. The cartoon is suitably irreverent, like DC’s answer to ‘Deadpool’, with a healthy dose of foul language, excessive gore, and intentional button-pushing. Is there anything this show can’t get away with? As it turns out, yes, there is one subject that got shot down– the show’s planned take on Aquaman. According to executive producer Justin Halpern: “The only thing we took out, that we were asked to take out by DC, was we had a take on Aquaman that I think was in a direction I don’t think they wanted Aquaman to go down. [In the film] Jason Momoa is kind of a bro-type, like fraternity-type, and so we dialed that up to like 1,000, and I think it made the character too ridiculous – even for them. So then we put a new take on the character.” Like Momoa’s Aquaman, the ‘Harley Quinn’ version has long hair, but that might be where the similarities end.
