Here is what Lee said (via The Hollywood Reporter): “The original content that is on DCU is migrating to HBO Max. Truthfully, that’s the best platform for that content. The […]

Check Out The Voice Cast Of ‘Batman: Soul Of The Dragon’ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/08/13/check-out-the-voice-cast-of-batman-soul-of-the-dragon/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/08/13/check-out-the-voice-cast-of-batman-soul-of-the-dragon/#disqus_thread Thu, 13 Aug 2020 12:00:42 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=355022 Warner Bros. Animation wrapped up its shared universe of movies with ‘Justice League Dark: Apocalypse War’, and it seems it isn’t looking back.  The upcoming Batman animated movie is a completely original story and takes the Caped Crusader back to the 1970s for a kung-fu-flavored action flick, entitled ‘Batman: Soul of the Dragon’. And in keeping with this fresh start, the voice cast is all-new.  ‘Grimm’ star David Giuntoli is the latest actor to take on the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne.  He was most recently seen on the ABC series ‘A Million Little Things’.  In the story, Batman must team up with three of his former martial arts “classmates.” Mark Dacascos provides the voice of Richard Dragon.  Dacascos is an actual martial artist and actor, having starred most recently in ‘One Night in Bangkok’.  He also starred in the Netflix action series ‘Wu Assassins’, on ‘Hawaii Five-O’ and in last year’s hit ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum’, among his many credits.  He may also be recognized as the host of ‘Top Chef America’. Kelly Hu costars as Lady Shiva.  Hu is an accomplished voice performer, and she actually voiced Lady Shiva in the video game ‘Batman: Arkham Origins’.  She […]

At least from the look of things, DC Fandome will be a more interactive experience (I really don’t need to see another Zoom panel) and “attendees” will be able to explore various virtual areas and get teases from upcoming projects like the movies ‘Aquaman’ (the sequel or the movie that came out two years ago?), ‘The Batman’, ‘Black Adam’, ‘The Suicide Squad’, ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, and HBO Max’s re-edit ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’; and the TV shows ‘Batwoman’, ‘Doom Patrol’, ‘Lucifer’, and ‘Pennyworth’. To promote DC Fandome, Warner Brothers has released a rousing trailer, set to John Williams’ ‘Superman: The Movie’ theme song.  Check it out below: These are the virtual areas that fans can explore (via Collider): DC WatchVerse: Here’s where you grab a seat, sit back, and join our virtual audience and become completely engrossed in hours of must-see content from around the world. And while Jason Todd stayed dead for a good long while, like most dead comic book characters, he was eventually revived and (as far as I know) is still alive, operating under the codename Red Hood. But if you are too young to have been alive in 1988, or… y’know, to have ever used a rotary telephone, you can experience the joy of killing Robin yourself… or of saving him! Warner Brothers is releasing an interactive animated version of the “A Death in the Family” storyline, and YOU […]

Snyder himself participated and below are some of the facts and teases he shared: It May Not Be Called ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ “The name of the movie, as Zack Snyder’s Justice League, is the name we all want. It is the name that we are working on. It’s legal reasons that restrict it. We’re trying to work that out. That’s the cool name for it. We’ll see. You’ll have to start a letter-writing campaign.” Fans May Get A Trailer At DC Fandome DC didn’t have much of a presence at SDCC, perhaps because the WarnerMedia subsidiary is hosting its own virtual fan expo, DC Fandome on August 22.  While a few bits of footage were revealed for Justice Con, Snyder promised more.’ “I will tell you guys, at Fandome […]

In 2015, filmmaker Ryan Unicomb announced plans for a documentary that would delve deep into this unmade film, but it failed to materialize.  Earlier this year, Unicomb announced that production on the doc would resume, under a new title, ‘Seven Friends: George Miller’s Justice League’.  But until then, this table read may suffice if you’ve ever had any questions about this project. Voice performer Shannon Farnon teased the table read with a post on her Facebook page: ‘Justice League: Mortal’ was on the verge of filming in Australia in 2007, when a writers’ strike derailed it.  Even though the cast had been gathered and sets had been built, Warner Brothers opted to scrap the project entirely.  ‘Mortal’ had been envisioned as an attempt to compete with the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe, but WB decided to work backward and release a […]

DC Universe Stops Offering Annual Subscriptions… Meaning It Probably Won’t Last Another Year https://sciencefiction.com/2020/07/21/dc-universe-stops-offering-annual-subscriptions-meaning-it-probably-wont-last-another-year/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/07/21/dc-universe-stops-offering-annual-subscriptions-meaning-it-probably-wont-last-another-year/#disqus_thread Tue, 21 Jul 2020 20:24:48 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=354308 Okay, well… I’ve tried to be positive about this, buuuut… DC Universe has ceased offering annual memberships.  This can really only mean one thing– DC Universe won’t be around for another year. The writing has been on the wall for a while.  DC Universe’s original series are steadily being “shared” with other outlets with ‘Stargirl’ also airing on The CW, soon to be joined by ‘Swamp Thing’, while ‘Doom Patrol’ is also available on HBO Max, with ‘Harley Quinn’ joining it in a couple of weeks.  Word arrived weeks ago that ‘Stargirl’ was moving entirely to The CW and would no longer be offered on DC Universe.  The CW, DC Universe, and HBO Max are all owned by parent company WarnerMedia, and many have speculated that with the launch of the bigger, more expansive streaming platform, HBO Max, that DC Universe’s days were numbered.  They were right. DC Universe, which costs $7.99 a month, was said to be shifting its focus to digital comics and news.  But then it went and canceled ‘DC Daily’, its comic book news show that aired Monday through Friday. On June 30, DC Universe subscribers were offered the chance to add HBO Max for $4.99 […]

Not surprisingly, ‘Harley Quinn’ has been renewed for a third batch.  Fans were startled and delighted that, like in the comics, Harley (Kaley Cuoco) and Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) wound up as a romantic couple on the show.  Showrunner Justin Halpern promises that viewers can look forward to further exploration of this dynamic […]

Television. Winter is writing and the show will be set in the corrupt world of the GCPD that Reeves establishes in ‘The Batman’.  The series will “build upon the film’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City” created by Reeves in ‘The Batman’.  Reeves recently signed an overall first-look deal with Warner Brothers and this is the first project to come from it. The filmmaker declared: “This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a long-form format can afford — and getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream.” Reilly added: “Our collaboration with Warner Bros and DC allows us to elaborate and grow fan […]

In December, TBS aired the show’s premiere episode, and this past May, Syfy aired the first season, so Warner Brothers has been really pushing this series in hopes of scoring a wider audience.  The first season is also available on DVD, and for digital purchase through Amazon Prime Video. The series follows Harley Quinn after a final breakup with The Joker, as she attempts to establish herself as a crime boss and join the Legion of Doom.  Season 2 saw Gotham City cut off from the United States and ruled by the Injustice League.  Harley actually teams with the Justice League to defeat them, and along the way, to the delight of […]

‘The Flash’: Reportedly, Michael Keaton Is Playing Bruce Not Thomas Wayne https://sciencefiction.com/2020/06/28/the-flash-reportedly-michael-keaton-is-playing-bruce-not-thomas-wayne/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/06/28/the-flash-reportedly-michael-keaton-is-playing-bruce-not-thomas-wayne/#disqus_thread Sun, 28 Jun 2020 12:00:14 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=353761 We can officially lay to rest one line of speculation regarding Michael Keaton‘s planned return to the cowl in the role of Batman in ‘The Flash’.  The Hollywood Reporter has confirmation from unidentified sources that Keaton will be playing the Bruce Wayne version of Batman, the same role he played in 1989’s ‘Batman’ and its sequel ‘Batman Returns’ in 1992.  The same source confirmed that Keaton will wear the costume.  Or at least a costume.  It’s not clear if he will squeeze back into that hard-to-move-in foam rubber from his previous films (or at least a modern recreation) or if he will be given a new Bat-Suit.  According to this source, Thomas Wayne doesn’t appear in the script at all. The news that Keaton was in talks to return as Batman in ‘The Flash’ caught fans off-guard last week.  Now fans just need to figure out just what all this means.  It was assumed that ‘The Flash’ would take place in the same continuity of ‘Batman V Superman’, ‘Justice League’ et al.  But that reality had an entirely different Batman/Bruce Wayne, played by Ben Affleck. ‘The Flash’ director, Andy Muschietti has admitted that the movie will borrow from the comic […]

Jackson’s Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as a “mentor” or possibly even as a “string-puller” to a younger generation of heroes.  THR cited the long-in-development ‘Batgirl’ movie as one potential picture that could feature Keaton’s Dark Knight in this mentor capacity. This is somewhat similar to a recent RUMOR regarding Henry Cavill‘s ongoing involvement with the DC movies.  Reportedly, plans were for him to take on a “Hulk-like” role as a supporting character in upcoming movies as opposed to starring in his own solo pictures. If this happens, there will officially be two cinematic Batmen running around, as Robert Pattinson is playing Batman/Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ in-production film ‘The Batman’. Andy Muschietti is directing ‘The Flash’ and has stated previously that this movie will borrow elements from the “Flashpoint” comic book storyline.  In a parallel universe created by The Flash’s […]

Schumacher made a splash in the 1980s, crafting sleek, stylish films, starring some of Hollywood’s hottest young actors.  Following two comedies, ‘The Incredible Shrinking Woman’ starring Lily Tomlin, and ‘DC Cab’ with Mr. T, he went on to helm the classics ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ (with Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, and Ally Sheedy), ‘The Lost Boys’ (Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, and the Coreys– Haim and Feldman), and ‘Flatliners’ (Sutherland, William Baldwin, Kevin Bacon, and Julia Roberts). He went on to direct film adaptations of the bestselling John Grisham legal thrillers ‘The Client’ and ‘A Time to Kill’, the latter of which launched the career of Matthew McConaughey.  Schumacher similarly helped launch the career of Colin Farrell with the 2000 war drama ‘Tigerland’. Among his other notable works were the film adaptation of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ which scored three Oscar nominations, and the social commentary ‘Falling Down’ with Michael Douglas.  Schumacher’s final film was the 2011 thriller ‘Trespass’ starring Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman, and his final directing jobs were two […]
