But the new season opens the door on the real world, the futuristic society populated with humans, most of which are not the wealthy Westworld vacationers.  Considering the cutting edge technology employed in Westworld and the other false realities, how has that tech changed the outside world? The series will dive deeper into that question, but for now, here is a short behind-the-scenes video released by HBO that explores this world.  While on the surface, it looks similar to our everyday reality, the flying cars and worker robots take things into the future. Check it out below: Season 3 introduces three new characters played by Aaron Paul (Caleb), Lena Waithe (Ash), and Marshawn Lynch (role unknown).  These are humans (at least so it seems at this point), indicating that the new episodes will perhaps focus more […]

The Final ‘Black Widow’ Trailer Offers A Closer Look At The Taskmaster’s Army https://sciencefiction.com/2020/03/09/the-new-black-widow-trailer-offers-a-closer-look-at-the-taskmasters-army/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/03/09/the-new-black-widow-trailer-offers-a-closer-look-at-the-taskmasters-army/#disqus_thread Mon, 09 Mar 2020 17:54:56 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=352184 SPOILER ALERT: There is some information contained here that could be considered SPOILERS for ‘Black Widow’ so proceed with caution. The latest ‘Black Widow’ trailer is here and sheds more light on the film’s plot and the involvement of The Taskmaster, the film’s big villain.  It seems that he now runs the Red Room, the Russian agency responsible for Natasha’s (Scarlett Johansson) role as a super-spy and assassin, a life she left behind when she joined the Avengers.  But now she’s back and it looks as though she is fighting to save her “family”– Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz), and Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour). Unlike Black Widow, it seems that the Taskmaster’s new soldiers are not free thinkers, but almost like robots under “his” control.  There is some hint that the Taskmaster will have the same powers as “he” has in the comics, to mimic any physical abilities “he” witnesses.   ***SPOILER ALERT*** It has been leaked that Weisz’s character’s full name is Melina Vostokoff, the real name of the Black Widow enemy, the Iron Maiden, in the comic books.  Because of that, there is some speculation that Weisz will betray Natasha in this movie, and […]

While Dormer’s Magda is the show’s antagonist, Daniel Zovatto serves as the hero, Detective Tiago Vega, the first Hispanic member of the police force, who finds himself torn between his two identities.  As one suspect sneers in the trailer, “Are you a cop pretending to be Mexican or a Mexican pretending to be a cop?” Rory Kinnear, who starred on the first ‘Penny Dreadful’ as John Clare a.k.a. Frankenstein’s monster, returns in the new role of American Nazi scientist Dr. Peter Craft.  The cast also includes Nathan Lane as Tiago’s partner and mentor, Lewis Michener; Kerry Bishé as Sister Molly, “a charismatic radio evangelist; Johnathan Nieves […]

Final ‘Scoob!’ Trailer Introduces Mark Wahlberg’s Blue Falcon https://sciencefiction.com/2020/03/06/final-scoob-trailer-introduces-mark-wahlbergs-blue-falcon/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/03/06/final-scoob-trailer-introduces-mark-wahlbergs-blue-falcon/#disqus_thread Fri, 06 Mar 2020 14:05:52 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=352060 Scooby-Doo is one of the most popular cartoon characters in the world, but he has been absent from the big screen for 16 years.  So you may have to forgive Warner Brothers for cramming a lot of stuff into ‘Scoob!’.  Not only is it an origin story, showing how Shaggy and Scooby first met, but the present-day segments will pit the Mystery Inc. gang against Hanna-Barbera baddie Dick Dastardly, and they will need help from some other HB crime fighters. The new trailer for ‘Scoob!’ gives the first look at Dastardly, Teen Angel Deedee Skyes, and Blue Falcon, the latter of whom is voiced by Mark Wahlberg.  It’s a bit of an adjustment — Wahlberg’s voice is higher and more nasally than I’ve ever noticed, as opposed to the booming baritone of Gary Owens who voiced Blue Falcon on the 1970s cartoon series.  But hey, he looks cool! In both the classic cartoon and in the new movie, Blue Falcon is the human partner to cybernetic K-9 Dyno-Mutt, who will be voiced by Ken Jeong in ‘Scoob!’.  Also appearing in the film (but not in this trailer) is Captain Caveman, voiced by Tracy Morgan.  On the original ‘Captain Caveman’ cartoon, […]

Coronavirus Causes European Disney+ Press Event To Be Cancelled https://sciencefiction.com/2020/03/03/coronavirus-causes-european-disney-press-event-to-be-cancelled/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/03/03/coronavirus-causes-european-disney-press-event-to-be-cancelled/#disqus_thread Wed, 04 Mar 2020 00:34:17 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=351893 The coronavirus is slowly creeping its way across the globe. We had better get used to it affecting our everyday lives. Yes, even Disney is going to suffer. Even the thought of the man-made possibly being within the vicinity of a major event is grounds for cancellation. The virus won’t be scaring guests away from parks yet, but it is sending journalists and celebrities home early.   RELATED: San Diego Comic-Con Braces For The Impact Of The Coronavirus   Deadline is reporting that a planned massive press event for Disney+ European launch has been scrapped. The presser was going to feature presentations from an unspecified list of guests. The attendees supposedly included Disney executives and “creative heads.” It would be fair to assume that this meant the team behind ‘The Mandalorian’ and the upcoming Marvel series like ‘WandaVision’. We’ll never know for sure now.  Trust me when I say that press events can lead to something similar to convention flu. So, I’d say this was a wise choice from the Mouse when Disney announced the following: “Due to a number of media attendee cancellations and increasing concerns at the prospect of traveling internationally at this time, we have decided to […]

Newcomer Ferdia Shaw leads up the cast as the titular criminal, with Dame Judi Dench as Commander Root of the fairies, and Lara McDonnell as Holly Short, a character whom Artemis kidnaps in the books.  But she is presented here as an ally.  The rest of the cast looks like a who’s who of Disney stars, including ‘Dumbo’s Colin Farrell as Artemis Fowl I, ‘Frozen’s Josh Gad as “giant dwarf” Mulch Diggums, and ‘Cinderella’s Nonso Anozie as young Artemis’ trusty butler, Butler.   RELATED:  The First Teaser Trailer Is Out For ‘Artemis Fowl’   If you are unfamiliar with the books, here […]

Justice League Dark: Apokolips War features the largest Super Hero cast in the history of DC Universe Movies with dozens of actors/characters spotlighted in a grand ensemble of talent reprising their roles from this six-year story continuum. Matt Ryan (Legends of Tomorrow, Constantine), Jerry O’Connell (Carter, Bravo’s Play by Play, Stand by Me) and Taissa Farmiga (The Nun, The Mule, American Horror Story) anchor the cast as Constantine, Superman and Raven, respectively – the triumvirate determined to assemble the forces necessary to lead humanity’s final attack. H.G. Well’s renowned novel ‘War of the Worlds’ is getting a modern-day reimaging over at EPIX and the result so far is a surprising blend of suspense, terror, and some legitimate scares in the vein similar to ‘The Walking Dead.’ Debuting last month, ‘War of the Worlds’ has an 8 episode run in its first season. Episode 3 will air this Sunday but you don’t have to wait until then to get a taste of what to expect as ScienceFiction.com has an exclusive first look clip of the episode right here! To bring you up to speed, astronomer Catherine Durand (Léa Drucker) discovers a distinct extraterrestrial wavelength coming from space. While this may be cause for excitement, it is former neuroscientist Bill Ward (Gabriel Byrne) who realizes that the electromagnetic pulses in the signal are identical to the ones that trigger a deadly reaction in the human brain. But it is too late. Within days, the majority of the Earth’s population is killed. Don’t Say That Name! Now it looks like we’re in for some actual frights in the months to come.  Blumhouse/Universal’s ‘Invisible Man’ opens this weekend, with previews beginning tonight, and has gotten glowing reviews.  Prior to its release, a few truly creepy trailers hinted at the chills to come.  Similarly, the trailers for ‘A Quiet Place – Part II’ pack more terror into a few seconds than other entire movies can deliver.  Now add the first trailer for ‘Candyman’ to the honor roll. Directed by Nia DaCosta, this “spiritual sequel” to the 1992 classic hails from Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions (‘Get Out’, ‘Us’), so expectations are high, and the trailer certainly seems to hint that horror fans won’t be disappointed. In real life, the setting for the original movie, the housing project of Cabrini Green in Chicago, has since been gentrified and that plays into the plot of the new film with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (‘Aquaman’) portraying a hot artist named Anthony McCoy whose career seems to have stalled.  He and his girlfriend, gallery director Brianna Cartwright (Teyonah Parris), have just moved into a luxury loft in the former slum […]

The film is, as stated before, based on a DC Elsewhere story that found Kal-El (aka Superman) landing in Soviet Russia instead of rural Kansas when he first came to Earth, resulting with the hero growing up with the ideals and institutions of Soviet Russia – meaning he is not the Boy Scout of America that we all know and love but more of a dictatorial figure in the USSR. The clip released recently reveals how Superman growing up Russian affects other heroes in the world and who they become, revealing that the Batman of ‘Superman: Red Son’ is also Russian but in this world, he is a bit of a terrorist who is out to stop Superman and the government and to break the people free of their iron rule. Not only that, but this Batman seems to have no issue with killing civilians, as the clip below reveals, murdering a museum full of regular people just to make a point.   RELATED: Comrade, Are You Ready […]

HBO realizes this hunger hence why “hidden trailers” keep popping up over the internet with the newest ones being found in a viral website called “Incite, Inc.,” a fictional website for a company within the ‘Westworld’ universe. At this point, we have 4 trailers for the series, the first being the official trailer from HBO with the ‘Sweet Child of Mine’ music at the end that most people have seen thanks to the standard promotion from the network.     Next we have two new trailers (to be clear, a lot of these do have the same visuals, with only a handful of new clips, voice-over, and dialogue, though the music is mostly different in each) called ‘Free Will Is Not Free’ and ‘Your World,’ which maintain the serious tone of the original HBO trailer though they do not have the ‘Sweet Child of Mine’ song in them, even though one of them uses all the same footage from that montage.       The craziest trailer by far is called […]

The last remaining humans are hunted down. Lies are exposed, truths are revealed. And for the Doctor, nothing will ever be the same. In the trailer for this weekend’s episode, the Cybermen can indeed be seen “on the march,” as they have been amassing over the past few episodes.  This episode also promises to bring the Thirteenth Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) confronting The (new) Master (Sacha Dhawan), who previously teased her (and viewers) with the ominous revelation: “They lied to us.  Everything we were told was a lie. We are not who we think. You or I. The whole existence of […]

You can check out the new trailer below.  There is at least one bit of new footage at the end to look forward to.   Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path. We do know that part of the movie will show what happened when the evil aliens first invaded.  That delivers a return appearance from John […]

At the very least, ‘The Invisible Man’, directed by Leigh Whannell, looks legitimately frightening! When Cecilia’s abusive ex commits suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune, Cecilia suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turns lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia’s sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see. ‘The Invisible Man’ also stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Cecilia’s abusive ex, Adrian Griffin, Harriet Dyer as Cecilia’s sister, who helps her escape, Aldis Hodge as their childhood friend, James, and Storm Reid as his daughter, Sydney.   RELATED: Universal/Blumhouse Releases The Longest ‘Invisible Man’ Trailer Yet   Bits of these scenes have been shown in trailers, […]

It seems that after causing Westworld to collapse, Dolores might be plotting the destruction of all of society.  As she puts it, she may have to do things the “old fashioned way” which is to “kill everyone.”  But there might be someone that comes between her and that goal — Maeve (Thandie Newton).  It seems a mysterious new figure (Vincent Cassel) has entered the equation and has tasked Maeve with one mission — to kill Dolores.   RELATED:  The Third Season Of ‘Westworld’ Will Be Shorter Than The First Two   The new trailer also offers glimpses of Bernard (Jeffrey Wright), Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth), Hale (Tessa Thompson), and William (Ed Harris).  It looks […]
