SPOILER ALERT: This article contains information that may be considered SPOILERS for ‘Titans’ so proceed with caution.
In January, we learned that Seamus Dever (Detective Kevin Ryan on ‘Castle’) had been cast in the DC Universe series ‘Titans’ but the identity of his character has been kept under wraps… until now. It appears that Dever is playing the show’s Big Bad, Trigon, the all-powerful demon lord who also happens to be Raven’s (Teagan Croft) father. Should the series follow the comics, Trigon tries to use Raven as his key to taking over the Earth. Among his followers is The Acolyte, who is played on ‘Titans’ by Jarreth J. Merz. It is the Acolyte’s first attempt to capture Raven that apparently sets off the main storyline for the series.
‘Titans’ Season One consists of 13 episodes. It will premiere when the DC Universe streaming service launches, some time in August and will be the only brand new series exclusive to it until next year, when live-action programs ‘Swamp Thing’ and ‘Doom Patrol’ (itself a spinoff from ‘Titans’) and the animated shows ‘Young Justice: Outsiders’ and ‘Harley Quinn’ premiere.
Trigon first appeared in 1981’s ‘The New Teen Titans’ #2. He has appeared on the animated ‘Teen Titans’ and ‘Teen Titans GO!’ as well as ‘DC Superhero Girls’ (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson) and in the movie ‘Justice League Vs. Teen Titans’, in which his voice was provided by ‘The Punisher’‘s Jon Bernthal.
‘Titans’ was developed for television by Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti. All three serve as executive producers with Sarah Schechter. In addition to Croft, the series stars Anna Diop as Starfire/Koriand’r, Ryan Potter as Beast Boy/Garfield Logan and Brenton Thwaites as Robin/Dick Grayson.
In addition to Trigon, the Titans will face off with the Moroni crime family and the Nuclear Family.
