First Look at Black Adam Suit and Hawkman Helmet in Leaked Set Photos

Black Adam fans are getting their first possible look at Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s costume in leaked behind-the-scenes images of the actor’s suit posted to Twitter last night. The leaked images not only include Black Adam’s suit but also show images of the classic Hawkman helmet fans are familiar with from the comics. The costume has similarities to the one worn by Zachary Levi in Shazam!, which would make sense as both superheroes, while rivals, draw their powers from the same source. Where this is our first peek into Black Adam’s suit, we surely can expect to see more to come at the upcoming DC FanDome event later this month. I really wanted to love the new Wonder Woman movie. After all, Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) is a fun and engaging character, particularly in her super-powered Wonder Woman guise. She’s a superhero with heart and compassion, quick to stop the bad guys but just as likely to help a child regain their lost soccer ball or favorite toy. The first film, 2017’s Wonder Woman, was mostly great fun with General Ludendorff (Danny Houston) a suitably epic antagonist that made for a dramatic showdown and goofy but lovable Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) as her love interest. It’s no longer World War I, however, it’s 1984 and the tail end of the Cold War. In Wonder Woman 1984 Diana is an anthropologist at the Smithsonian Institute when she’s not donning her trademark outfit and zipping about DC rescuing women from being hit by speeding cars or tossed off bridges. Her new colleague Barbara Ann Minerva (Kristen Wiig) is envious of Diana’s presence, self-confidence and beauty; she’s a bit of a clumsy goof that people tend to ignore. In an exclusive new interview with Empire Magazine, James Gunn takes the opportunity to speak about his newest movie, next year’s DC tent-pole offering ‘The Suicide Squad,’ and the director also chats about his previous work including the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films and the bumpy road he’s had facing some serious online backlash on his sometimes-insensitive public-posting past. It’s Empire’s December 2020 issue, and it’s available digitally and on newsstands starting on October 29th. While we here at ScienceFiction.com have long thought that Gunn could “direct the heck out of” several DC properties, he landed on ‘The Suicide Squad,’ first as the writer for the film and shortly afterwards becoming the director as well. Jurnee Smollett starred in the TV series ‘Underground’ created by Misha Green. Now Green acts as showrunner of HBO’s new horror hit ‘Lovecraft Country’, on which Smollett also stars. Earlier this year, Smollett was seen as Black Canary/Dinah Lance in the DC Comics film ‘Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)’, and while the flick wasn’t a huge smash (COVID-19 caused theaters to shut down almost right after it opened), Smollet admits that she would return to play Black Canary in a future film, while Green revealed that they had a past connection that concerns the comic book hero. Smollett says: “It’s no secret how much I love Black Canary. It’s a dream character and was a dream to play her. Heroes Of The CW Suit Up In 10 New DC Fandome Posters

Next weekend, DC Comics (an AT&T/WarnerMedia subsidiary) will hold its first-ever virtual fan convention, DC Fandome, and in anticipation of that event, The CW has released posters showcasing its slate in DC shows. Newcomers ‘Stargirl’ (Brec Bassinger) and ‘Superman & Lois’ (Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch) are included along with Cress Williams (Black Lightning/Jefferson Pierce) from ‘Black Lightning’, Grant Gustin (The Flash/Barry Allen) and Candice Patton (Iris West-Allen) from ‘The Flash’, and Melissa Benoist (Supergirl/Kara Danvers) and Nicole Maines (Nia Nal/Dreamer) from ‘Supergirl’. It’s interesting that Patton and Maines get their own posters, when they are supporting castmembers, while The CW’ real ensemble show, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ only gets one poster, depicting Caity Lotz as White Canary/Sara Lance. But the strangest inclusion is the poster for ‘Batwoman’. In May, the show’s lead, Ruby Rose, quit the show. She has since been replaced by Javica Leslie, but due to COVID-19, it doesn’t appear that production has resumed on any of these shows, and Leslie may not have even done a costume fitting yet. Jim Lee Confirms DC Universe Content Is Moving To HBO Max

Well, we all knew it was coming, but it appears to be official. DC Universe will continue to provide digital comics and a platform for fans to interact, but its original TV projects are moving over to HBO Max. HBO Max already offers the animated ‘Harley Quinn’ and live-action ‘Doom Patrol’, but according to Jim Lee, DC Comics’ sole publisher after the departure of Dan DiDio earlier this year, it sounds as though the remainder of DC Universe’s original continent will also shift over. That includes the live-action ‘Titans’ and animated ‘Young Justice’. Just weeks ago, DC Universe quietly stopped offering annual memberships. ‘Stargirl’, meanwhile, was moved over to The CW, where it has performed strongly. It was already announced that Season 2 would only be released via The CW and not DC Universe. The CW is also airing ‘Swamp Thing’ a live-action series that only lasted for one shortened season, and there have been faint rumbling that a second season could be in the cards if it performs well. Warner Bros. Animation wrapped up its shared universe of movies with ‘Justice League Dark: Apocalypse War’, and it seems it isn’t looking back. The upcoming Batman animated movie is a completely original story and takes the Caped Crusader back to the 1970s for a kung-fu-flavored action flick, entitled ‘Batman: Soul of the Dragon’. And in keeping with this fresh start, the voice cast is all-new. ‘Grimm’ star David Giuntoli is the latest actor to take on the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne. He was most recently seen on the ABC series ‘A Million Little Things’. In the story, Batman must team up with three of his former martial arts “classmates.” Mark Dacascos provides the voice of Richard Dragon. Dacascos is an actual martial artist and actor, having starred most recently in ‘One Night in Bangkok’. Elizabeth Tulloch portrays Lois Lane, the legendary reporter, and the breadwinner in this family dynamic, as Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) has been recently laid off from the Daily Planet. Ruby Rose sent shockwaves through fandom in May when she announced that she was quitting her hit freshman series ‘Batwoman’. She was reportedly unhappy with the physical demands of fronting an action series, and last year, she had suffered a bad injury onset that required emergency surgery. While she hasn’t remained silent, she hasn’t offered much additional information on her leaving. She has finally opened up in an interview with EW: “Being the lead of a superhero show is tough. Being the lead in anything is tough. But I think, in that particular instance, it was a lot more difficult because I was still recovering from my surgery. ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ was supposed to have swung into theaters in June, but due to COVID-19, it has been postponed a few times. Right now, it is slated to finally arrive on October 2. But one element that was supposed to have been kept somewhat secret before its release was the metamorphosis undergone by Barbara Minerva, played by Kristen Wiig. The character starts out as a co-worker and friend of Diana’s (Gal Gadot) at the Smithsonian, but over the course of the film, she transforms into the sinister Cheetah. There have been multiple Cheetahs in the comics, with the earlier versions being regular women, but that changed in 1987 with the introduction of Barbara Minerva, a mystical half-woman, half-feline, with real claws and lightning reflexes and enhanced speed. The publicity photos that have been released of Wiig in character have only shown her as a reasonably normal woman, but with the merchandising for the movie arriving (which had been timed for release along with the movie’s original date), fans have gotten a look at how Barbara will ultimately turn out in the movie. “Real Heroes Wear Masks” tout a new series of posters from The CW featuring some of the stars of its DC Comics-inspired shows. Okay, so these are just photoshopped versions of previously released promo images, but they’re a fun way to hopefully help curb the spread of COVID-19. The posters feature ‘Black Lightning’s Cress Williams, ‘The Flash’s Grant Gustin, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’s Caity Lotz, and ‘Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist, as well as Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, star of the upcoming ‘Superman & Lois’ plus Brec Bassinger, the lead on ‘Stargirl’, another DC show, but one that is not part of the Arrowverse. Yes, there is one glaring omission: Batwoman. Ruby Rose shockingly quit that series in May.
