The costume has similarities to the one worn by Zachary Levi in Shazam!, which would make sense as both superheroes, while rivals, draw their powers from the same source. Where this is our first peek into Black Adam’s suit, we surely can expect to see more to come at the upcoming DC FanDome event later this month. So what do you think of the first images of Black Adam’s suit and Hawkman’s helmet? Let us know in the comments below! Black Adam is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 29, 2022.

Movie Review: Wonder Woman 1984 https://sciencefiction.com/2021/01/21/movie-review-wonder-woman-1984/ https://sciencefiction.com/2021/01/21/movie-review-wonder-woman-1984/#disqus_thread Fri, 22 Jan 2021 03:04:57 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=355454 I really wanted to love the new Wonder Woman movie. After all, Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) is a fun and engaging character, particularly in her super-powered Wonder Woman guise. She’s a superhero with heart and compassion, quick to stop the bad guys but just as likely to help a child regain their lost soccer ball or favorite toy. The first film, 2017’s Wonder Woman, was mostly great fun with General Ludendorff (Danny Houston) a suitably epic antagonist that made for a dramatic showdown and goofy but lovable Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) as her love interest. It’s no longer World War I, however, it’s 1984 and the tail end of the Cold War. In Wonder Woman 1984 Diana is an anthropologist at the Smithsonian Institute when she’s not donning her trademark outfit and zipping about DC rescuing women from being hit by speeding cars or tossed off bridges. Her new colleague Barbara Ann Minerva (Kristen Wiig) is envious of Diana’s presence, self-confidence and beauty; she’s a bit of a clumsy goof that people tend to ignore. A shipment of antiques arrives from the FBI with the request that the Smithsonian help identify the individual pieces. Chief among them is a crystal […]

James Gunn: Here’s How ‘The Suicide Squad’ Will Connect to 2016’s ‘Suicide Squad’ Film https://sciencefiction.com/2020/10/27/james-gunn-heres-how-the-suicide-squad-will-connect-to-2016s-suicide-squad-film/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/10/27/james-gunn-heres-how-the-suicide-squad-will-connect-to-2016s-suicide-squad-film/#disqus_thread Tue, 27 Oct 2020 17:13:34 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=355334 In an exclusive new interview with Empire Magazine, James Gunn takes the opportunity to speak about his newest movie, next year’s DC tent-pole offering ‘The Suicide Squad,’ and the director also chats about his previous work including the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films and the bumpy road he’s had facing some serious online backlash on his sometimes-insensitive public-posting past. It’s Empire’s December 2020 issue, and it’s available digitally and on newsstands starting on October 29th.  While we here at ScienceFiction.com have long thought that Gunn could “direct the heck out of” several DC properties, he landed on ‘The Suicide Squad,’ first as the writer for the film and shortly afterwards becoming the director as well.  As for the 2016 film version of ‘Suicide Squad,’ directed by David Ayer, Gunn had the following to say in his interview: “Listen, David Ayer’s gotten trouble for the movie. I know it didn’t come out how David wanted it to come out. But he did one really, really great thing, and that is he picked fantastic actors to work with, and he dealt with these actors in building their characters in a really deep and fearless way. It’s something David definitely deserves to be […]

Smollett says: “It’s no secret how much I love Black Canary. It’s a dream character and was a dream to play her.  If [the] dynamics fell in the right way, I would absolutely do it in a heartbeat, and Lord knows, I follow Misha wherever she leads me.” Green admitted that she often played as Black Canary against Smollett in the video game ‘Injustice’. “And I just would just do the ‘canary scream’ to win all the time, which would frustrate [Jurnee].  So, it was like, ‘It’s kind of kismet and funny that you’re now Black Canary […]

Heroes Of The CW Suit Up In 10 New DC Fandome Posters https://sciencefiction.com/2020/08/16/heroes-of-the-cw-suit-up-in-10-new-dc-fandome-posters/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/08/16/heroes-of-the-cw-suit-up-in-10-new-dc-fandome-posters/#disqus_thread Sun, 16 Aug 2020 20:00:37 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=355087 Next weekend, DC Comics (an AT&T/WarnerMedia subsidiary) will hold its first-ever virtual fan convention, DC Fandome, and in anticipation of that event, The CW has released posters showcasing its slate in DC shows.  Newcomers ‘Stargirl’ (Brec Bassinger) and ‘Superman & Lois’ (Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch) are included along with Cress Williams (Black Lightning/Jefferson Pierce) from ‘Black Lightning’, Grant Gustin (The Flash/Barry Allen) and Candice Patton (Iris West-Allen) from ‘The Flash’, and Melissa Benoist (Supergirl/Kara Danvers) and Nicole Maines (Nia Nal/Dreamer) from ‘Supergirl’.  It’s interesting that Patton and Maines get their own posters, when they are supporting castmembers, while The CW’ real ensemble show, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ only gets one poster, depicting Caity Lotz as White Canary/Sara Lance. But the strangest inclusion is the poster for ‘Batwoman’.  In May, the show’s lead, Ruby Rose, quit the show.  She has since been replaced by Javica Leslie, but due to COVID-19, it doesn’t appear that production has resumed on any of these shows, and Leslie may not have even done a costume fitting yet.  So instead… the poster depicts the Batsignal.  Mmmm-kay.  They could have just not done a ‘Batwoman’ poster. Each poster is trimmed with artwork from the comics, to remind […]

Here is what Lee said (via The Hollywood Reporter): “The original content that is on DCU is migrating to HBO Max. Truthfully, that’s the best platform for that content. The […]

Animation wrapped up its shared universe of movies with ‘Justice League Dark: Apocalypse War’, and it seems it isn’t looking back.  The upcoming Batman animated movie is a completely original story and takes the Caped Crusader back to the 1970s for a kung-fu-flavored action flick, entitled ‘Batman: Soul of the Dragon’. And in keeping with this fresh start, the voice cast is all-new.  ‘Grimm’ star David Giuntoli is the latest actor to take on the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne.  He was most recently seen on the ABC series ‘A Million Little Things’.  In the story, Batman must team up with three of his former martial arts “classmates.” Mark Dacascos provides the voice of Richard Dragon.  Dacascos is an actual martial artist and actor, having starred most recently in ‘One Night in Bangkok’.  He also starred in the Netflix action series ‘Wu Assassins’, on ‘Hawaii Five-O’ and in last year’s hit ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum’, among his many credits.  He may also be recognized as the host of ‘Top Chef America’. Kelly Hu costars as Lady Shiva.  Hu is an accomplished voice performer, and she actually voiced Lady Shiva in the video game ‘Batman: Arkham Origins’.  She […]

Tulloch is just the latest to portray the famous comic book character, joining a list that includes Noel Neill, Phyllis Coates, Margot Kidder, Teri Hatcher, Erica Durance, Kate Bosworth, and Amy Adams. Check out the new poster below: Tulloch previously stated: “When Todd Helbing, who’s our showrunner, was telling me about the story for the pilot script for Superman & Lois, I got chills.  It’s so good, and it’s so something we haven’t seen before with them, so I think it’s going to be great.” Hoechlin added: “I could not be more grateful for the opportunity to tell this story, that for now shall remain a secret. But I’ve been blessed with nothing less than the most wonderful people to do it alongside of.  All the people behind the scenes care so much about these characters and their lives and […]

She has finally opened up in an interview with EW: “Being the lead of a superhero show is tough. Being the lead in anything is tough.  But I think, in that particular instance, it was a lot more difficult because I was still recovering from my surgery. I had my surgery and then 10 days later I went to work, which maybe wasn’t the best idea. Most people take about a month or three off before they return to work, so it was definitely made more difficult by that. But as far as being a lead of a show or a film — regardless if it’s action or if it’s emotional — in whichever ways it’s taxing. “It wasn’t so much [the injury], especially because after we wrapped up we didn’t get to finish the real finale because of […]

There have been multiple Cheetahs in the comics, with the earlier versions being regular women, but that changed in 1987 with the introduction of Barbara Minerva, a mystical half-woman, half-feline, with real claws and lightning reflexes and enhanced speed. The publicity photos that have been released of Wiig in character have only shown her as a reasonably normal woman, but with the merchandising for the movie arriving (which had been timed for release along with the movie’s original date), fans have gotten a look at how Barbara will ultimately turn out in the movie. Even so, Wiig “We weren’t allowed to take any pictures. This was lockdown.  They have it somewhere, […]

The posters feature ‘Black Lightning’s Cress Williams, ‘The Flash’s Grant Gustin, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’s Caity Lotz, and ‘Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist, as well as Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, star of the upcoming ‘Superman & Lois’ plus Brec Bassinger, the lead on ‘Stargirl’, another DC show, but one that is not part of the Arrowverse. Yes, there is one glaring omission: Batwoman.  Ruby Rose shockingly quit that series in May.  And while her replacement, Javica Leslie, was hired last month, she would not have had time to suit up and do a photoshoot.  (Although that would’ve been cool, and a big scoop!) Perhaps in order to make up for the absence of a Batwoman, the posters added a different bonus character– BeeBo, the plushy phenomenon from ‘Legends’. Check out the posters below: Though production on all shows has been shut down, it is hoped that ‘The Flash’ (Season 7), ‘Black Lightning’ (S4), ‘Batwoman’ (S2), […]

Brec Bassinger heads up the cast as an optimistic teenager who inherits the mantle of Stargirl from the deceased hero Starman, a member of the Justice Society of America, until his and all of their untimely deaths at the hands of the Injustice Society of America.  Mentored by her stepfather, Starman’s sidekick Stripesy, a.k.a. Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson), Courtney has assembled a new JSA with Rick Tyler (Cameron Gellman), the son of original JSA member, Hourman, and two more friends.  Yolanda Montez (Yvette Monreal) has taken on the identity of Wildcat, while brainy Beth Caple (Anjelika Washington) has become the new Dr. Mid-Nite. In the season finale, “Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E.’, the new JSA, aided by Sir Justin, the Shining Knight (Mark Ashworth), will face off against the ISA for one final (?) showdown.
