Here’s the “official” description directly from Marvel: Here it is. ❤️ + ⚡ Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder arrives only in theaters July 8. The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr […]

Marvel Comics Announces Their New ‘Space Age’ https://sciencefiction.com/2021/01/22/marvel-comics-announces-their-new-space-age/ https://sciencefiction.com/2021/01/22/marvel-comics-announces-their-new-space-age/#disqus_thread Fri, 22 Jan 2021 18:30:33 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=355489 While 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic weren’t exactly kind to the film industry, with many films seeing their release dates bumped an entire year or more in order to accommodate audiences being able to safely return to theaters, the realm of the comic book was able to keep plugging on, largely with business as usual.  Marvel Comics, the inspiration for the widely successful Marvel Cinematic Universe and its groupings of movies and TV shows, has kept fresh stories coming forth featuring readers’ favorite characters; now they have announced that, in just a few short months, some of the world’s greatest superheroes will be entering a “new Space Age” of their own. Directly from Marvel: For Earth, there are the Avengers. For everywhere else, there’s the Guardians of the Galaxy. This April, writer Al Ewing teams up with artist Juan Frigeri for a new arc of his epic run on GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. The double-sized milestone 175th issue, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #13, will introduce the book’s new lineup, reveal the Guardian’s bold new mission, and welcome readers to Marvel’s new space age! They were soldiers, misfits, mercenaries, thieves and a family. They were heroes… but times have changed. The […]

James Gunn Says That ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Was Always Intended To Be A Trilogy, Doesn’t Plan To Make A Fourth https://sciencefiction.com/2020/04/20/james-gunn-says-that-guardians-of-the-galaxy-was-always-intended-to-be-a-trilogy-doesnt-plan-to-make-a-fourth/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/04/20/james-gunn-says-that-guardians-of-the-galaxy-was-always-intended-to-be-a-trilogy-doesnt-plan-to-make-a-fourth/#disqus_thread Mon, 20 Apr 2020 16:05:51 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=353002 Folks are sheltering in place all over the world and James Gunn, one of the most active movie makers on social media took part in a Q&A to discuss his various projects old and new.  Among the revelations he made are that fans don’t have to watch David Ayer’s ‘Suicide Squad’ to appreciate Gunn’s upcoming ‘The Suicide Squad’, and that chronologically, ‘The Suicide Squad’ takes place after the recent ‘Birds of Prey’, which also features Margot Robbie’s take on Harley Quinn.  Regarding his other upcoming comic book movie, Disney’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3’, he stated that Kraglin, the Ravager played by his brother Sean, would have a larger role, but he also hinted that another character would die. One fan asked if he had plans to direct a fourth ‘Guardians’ movie, erroneously pointing out that Gunn previously claimed that he didn’t plan to make a second.  Gunn corrected the fan, stating that he always envisioned ‘Guardians’ as a trilogy and that was still the case. “I absolutely never said I wouldn’t do a Vol 2., as I planned to do a trilogy from the beginning if the first one worked. I have no plans to do a 4th.” […]

The director made these declarations via Twitter this weekend. Right now there’s no reason for #TheSuicideSquad release date to move. We are on or ahead of schedule. Discussing the new picture, Waititi admitted: “It’s so over the top now in the very best way. It makes Ragnarok seem like a really run of the mill, very safe film…this new film feels like we asked a bunch of 10-year-olds what should be in a movie and just said yes to everything… Look up space sharks and that should give you an idea,” Yes, the film will include Marvel’s Space Sharks (also called Starsharks).  But one character that will absolutely NOT be in the film, despite recent rumors, is the Silver Surfer.  The rights to that popular character were previously held […]

However, the realities of Hollywood and filmmaking do not always follow that type of logic as closely as they should. Originally, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3‘ would have been the first movie of the two franchises to follow ‘Endgame,’ which would mean Thor would play some part in the final chapter of the ‘Guardians’ story. But after the disastrous firing and re-hiring of James Gunn (over the course of an 8 month period) by the overly cautious execs at Disney, ‘Guardians Vol 3’ has been delayed due to Gunn working on ‘The Suicide Squad‘ for Warner Bros/DC, meaning ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ will come out first. How Thor split from the Guardians or whether or not they would feature in the film has been a question of interest for some time, until recently.   RELATED: Tessa Thompson Confirms Christian Bale Is Playing The Villain In ‘Thor: Love And Thunder’   While […]

While speaking on the subject recently with Collider while promoting his new film ‘My Spy,’ Drax star Dave Bautista commented on how he would like to see his character used in the future, namely with an idea from Gunn of a spin-off with Drax and Mantis. In Bautista’s words: “What I would like to do is honestly, and this is not my idea, I’m stealing this idea, but James Gunn had the idea to do a Drax/Mantis movie. And that’s what I would be up for, because there’s just too much fun there.” Bautista followed up that statement with thoughts that it was very unlikely thanks to Marvel planning out their films so far ahead of time and not really having a good slot for a Drax/Mantis movie in the next few years.   RELATED:  Dave Bautista Shares That Marvel Studios Didn’t Want To Do A ‘Drax’ Movie   Luckily […]

I can’t tell you much. Lots of exciting text messages exchanged between Natalie and I. We’re going to have fun. Taika is writing [and] directing. Some familiar faces. Some new people coming into the mix.” Indeed, Taika Waititi reinvigorated the ‘Thor’ franchise with ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, following the first two, far more serious movies in the series.  The director recently won his first Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for ‘Jojo Rabbit’.  He will be back to write and direct ‘Love and Thunder’.  He will also lend his voice to rock man Korg, as he has in ‘Ragnarok’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Also returning from previous pictures is Natalie Portman, whose Jane Foster has been absent from the MCU since ‘Thor: The Dark World’.  Following the storyline from the comics, she will become a new version of Thor in this sequel.   RELATED:  Taika Waititi Hammers Home Who The Real Star Of ‘Thor: Love And Thunder’ Is […]

The biggest franchise fans seem to be asking about the movie ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ which was delayed after James Gunn’s public relations nightmare when some offensive social media posts from a few years ago pushed Disney/Marvel to removed him from the series, later rehiring him due to massive fan demand, support from the cast, and public apologies from Gunn. Specifically, the question about when ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3’ will take place actually makes a lot of sense, considering that the events of ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ killed off one of the team’s founding members, Gamora, and left off with a version of her from 2014 wandering loose in the galaxy somewhere, with Quill determined to find her along with help of his original crew and new team member Thor. Luckily, one fan managed to ask James Gunn recently when ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3’ will take place, […]

You may recall that Yeoh has already appeared as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Aleta Ogord in the post-credits scene of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2’, which essentially set her up to return in ‘Vol. 3’ as part of Stakar’s (Sylvester Stallone) team, which also includes Michael Rosenbaum as Martinex, Ving Rhames as Charlie-27, and Miley Cyrus as the voice of Mainframe.
