It seems like it was just yesterday that The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm and announced that a new ‘Star Wars’ trilogy was on it’s way. But it has been over a year since that monumental acquisition and we have since learned that besides ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’, a few standalone films are in the pipeline from Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan. While there have been much speculation about who will be the subjects of these films, at last word, we learned that they are actually origin stories. Now, we may have learned at least one of the characters from a galaxy far, far away that we’ll follow during their early days.
During the AMC Movie Talk 24 Marathon to benefit the victims of Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines, director Jon Schnepp declared with such fervor and confidence that he “knows for a fact” that Kasdan, who has recently been working with J.J. Abrams on the script for first chapter in the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ trilogy, is working on a spinoff film for Boba Fett. You can hear the statement straight from Schnepp’s mouth in the video below:
From the time that these spinoffs were first announced, the bounty hunter was among those rumored to being the focus of Kasdan and Kinberg’s projects alongside Han Solo and Yoda. If those three fan favorites were in the running for stand alone feature films, it only made sense that Fett’s co-creator handles the scripting duties for his origin story. Now, though still not confirmed by any official sources, this new report might add fuel to the fire that would light the way towards the Mandolorian menace starring in his own movie.
Do you believe Jon Schnepp when he says that Lawrence Kasdan is writing a Boba Fett spinoff movie? Is the bounty hunter’s origin story something that you would like to see play out in the big screen? Let us know in the comments below.
