For Trekkies looking for news about the new ‘Star Trek’ sequel, here’s something to get excited about! Roberto Orci, co-producer and co-writer of the movie, has confirmed that Captain Pike is indeed included in the second movie!
On the Trek Movie message boards, the writer himself wrote about the confirmation in answer to a fan’s specific question as to whether Bruce Greenwood’s character, Captain Pike, would be making a return:
Orci commented back stating that a part has been written in for Greenwood:
We can only assume that the ‘Let’s hope he says yes’ response means that the role has already been offered to Greenwood and the details are just being hammered out. After all, in an interview with Collider last year, Greenwood has stated that he thinks Captain Pike is an important character in the ‘Star Trek’ franchise and he would ultimately like to see a series based around him:
“I think Captain Pike is an essential component to the whole franchise. I think there should be a whole offshoot of Pike’s adventures…There’s nothing that says Pike can’t get up and out of that wheelchair, get his own ship and go off on some adventures of his own. I’m now an admiral but I just want to get out of the wheelchair.”
Filming on the untitled ‘Star Trek 2’ film begins next month with a release date of May 17, 2013.
So what do you think of the news? Would you like to see the return of Captain Pike?
