Later this year, Netflix will bring another old-school cartoon property back to live with their 5-part miniseries ‘Masters of the Universe: Revelation,’ spearheaded by long-time pop-culture creator Kevin Smith. Serving as the showrunner and executive producer, Smith is joined by behind-the-scenes talent from the original ‘He-Man and the Masters of the Universe’ series, including Frederick Soulie as an executive producer and Susan Cordin as a producer. Longtime Smith co-collaborator Marc Bernardin serves as one of the writers, and the series’ music is composed by Bear McCreary. Speaking about what the original 1980s cartoon series meant to him, Smith had this to say: I watched all of the TV series growing up, it was everywhere in the ‘80s. A New ‘Buck Rogers’ TV Show, Featuring George Clooney, Is Heading To TV

It’s no secret that we live in a world of remakes, re-imaginings, reboots, revivals, and whatever other “re-” words you can think of that indicate Hollywood loves to take old properties and bring them back with a fresh spin – some, admittedly, fresher than others. As first reported by The Wrap, Legendary Entertainment is planning a multi-format revival of the Buck Rogers franchise, with reported plans starting with TV series that will hopefully branch into a companion film franchise and even an accompanying anime-style animated series. The TV series will be up first, and will be produced by long-time Hollywood stalwart George Clooney. The Wrap reports that Legendary also intends Clooney to star in the series – likely not as Buck Rogers – but a following report from Variety refutes the notion that Clooney will appear on-camera in any significant way in the franchise. Dank farrik, Disney had it’s Investors Day 2020 on Thursday and unleashed a metric butt-ton of information about its forthcoming Star Wars properties. There’s a lot to unpack, so let’s dive right in. Directly from Disney’s press release: Lucasfilm announced an impressive number of exciting Disney+ series and new feature films destined to expand the Star Wars galaxy like never before. Among the projects for Disney+ are “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” starring Ewan McGregor with Hayden Christensen returning as Darth Vader, and two series set in the Mandalorian era from Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni: “Rangers of the New Republic” and “Ahsoka,” a series featuring the fan favorite character Ahsoka Tano. Additional new titles announced for Disney+ include “Andor,” “Star Wars: The Bad Batch,” “Star Wars: Visions,” “Lando,” “The Acolyte,” and “A Droid Story.” The studio is also revisiting “Willow” in a new series with Warwick Davis returning in the title role. Today, Marvel Comics is teasing a new event that will be visited on at least two three four (if not more) of the company’s seminal characters and series – an event that may see Marvel history as we know it “destroyed.” First up, a cryptic “What If” style graphic was sent out from the folks at Marvel, asking the rather direct question “Who really gave the Fantastic Four their powers?” The question seems to call into, uh, question the long-established origin story of “Marvel’s First Family” and their acquisition of their powers in a cosmic accident. The Fantastic Four have recently “returned” to the Marvel Universe after making a journey into the multiverse to attempt to save reality; the characters were without a monthly book of their own for a while, but Fantastic Four #1 launched last month and has brought them all back into the routinely-published fold. The second graphic, sent out by Marvel shortly after the first, is a bit darker in nature. It’s been common knowledge to Star Trek fans for about a year now that beloved franchise writer/creator Nicholas Meyer has been working on a new Trek-related property, allegedly in the form of a brand-new film series. The speculation began in June 2017 when, in an interview with TrekMovie, Meyer coyly danced around the subject: MEYER: One thing that has nothing to do with ‘Discovery’ is that I am working on another Star Trek project, but I can’t discuss that either. TREKMOVIE: Are we talking more feature film because as far as I know, there is only one television project, I assume. MEYER: You can assume. ‘In Search Of,’ the documentary-style television show from the late 1970s and early 1980s that focused on case files of the paranormal and extraterrestrial, is coming back to TV as a brand-new 10-episode limited series. The show will be aired on HISTORY, the cable & streaming network, and will be hosted and executive-produced by Zachary Quinto. Quinto is well-known to genre audiences for his on-screen starring roles in the NBC series ‘Heroes,’ and the three newest ‘Star Trek’ feature films as beloved character Spock. The latter is particularly poignant, as the original actor to play Spock in ‘Star Trek,’ Leonard Nimoy, also hosted the classic ‘In Search Of’ series after original host Rod Serling passed away. Impending ‘Doctor Who’ showrunner Chris Chibnall, who will be taking over those duties from outgoing creative head Steven Moffat, has quite a daunting task ahead of him. The British sci-fi series has been going relatively strong since its re-introduction to the pop-culture masses a decade ago, but many fans and critics believe that the show has started to stagnate a bit in recent seasons. Chibnall believes that he was chosen to guide ‘Doctor Who’ to combat exactly that rationale. In a recent interview, Chibnall talked about the process behind his decision to assume creative control of the series. Chibnall was already intimately familiar with parent company BBC, of course, having created another of the channel’s popular series in the U.K., ‘Broadchurch.’ He spoke a bit about what the BBC seemed to be looking for in terms of the future direction of ‘Doctor Who:’ “[The BBC] really had to woo me. Marvel mutant series ‘The Gifted,’ billed as a “non X-Men adventure drama,” has received a series order from Fox, according to info released by EW. We’re not sure why there’s such a need to call it “non X-Men,” because fans of Marvel’s X-series will see much that they recognize from this show. It starts at the top – literally. Longtime ‘X-Men’ film director Bryan Singer directed the pilot episode, and he will also executive produce the series alongside fellow X-types Jeph Loeb, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Winberg, and Jim Chory. The cast list contains plenty of character names that X-Men comic fans will recognize, including Blink, Eclipse, Polaris, and Thunderbird. Well, it’s short but sweet – and I don’t think fans would want it any other way. The hotly-anticipated return of ‘Twin Peaks’ after over 25 years off the air has lots of people intrigued. Series creator David Lynch has returned to pick up the story of the two-season supernatural drama, and as was to expected given Lynch’s eclectic history, information on what audiences can expect has been hard to come by. This trailer, in fact, is the first to give us any actual footage from the new series, following on the tail of a trailer last week that provided the actual first “still shot” looks at the new show. The end of another Doctor’s time is upon us. As ‘Doctor Who’ comes back from its extended hiatus, fans already know that this will be the “swan song” for Peter Capaldi in his stay as the Twelfth Doctor. This too is also the last season under current showrunner Steven Moffat, who has served as head writer and executive producer of the show for years but is now stepping aside to focus on ‘Sherlock’ and other projects. In his place, Chris Chibnall will take up the mantle – but not before Moffat works hard to send Capaldi out with a bang. If there’s one thing the 1990s TV series ‘Twin Peaks’ is fondly remembered for, it’s definitely doing things in an “out of the ordinary” type of way. A surreal, supernatural, dark-comedy type of “anti-soap opera,” the original series lasted for only two seasons but has found a major cult-status following since. Scheduled to reappear next month on Showtime, the series has dropped four new teaser videos. Sadly, these videos don’t feature any footage from the new series – but that’s to be expected from as quirky and secretive a creator as David Lynch. Marvel Is Creating A New ‘Star Wars’ Comic Series That Launches This December!

With ‘Star Wars’ Fever in full swing right now, it’s a good time to be a fan of the classic light-side-versus-dark-side saga. Last year’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ broke all kinds of box-office records and cemented the global frenzy for new stories to be added to the already-significant lore; this year sees the franchise’s first “standalone” film, ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,’ to be released in a scant few months’ time. Now, we’ve received word that Marvel is working on an all-new, canonical comic series. Currently titled ‘Star Wars: Classified,’ not much is known about the details of the series story, but the hush-hush lack of information is to be expected and is par for the course for almost every Star Wars project being created these days. Marvel’s first official announcement of the series, via a page in their monthly Marvel Previews catalog, lists the series as “an all-new, top-secret ongoing Star Wars series, beginning this December.” The info page lists the creative teams for the first two issues (a larger-sized 40-issue premiere followed by a 32-page second issue): writer will handle the main issue-to-issue duties, with a slew of other talent slated for a bevy of variant covers. ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Writers Say “Lower Your Expecations” For The New Show

At the Mission New York convention this weekend, a show focused around all things ‘Star Trek,’ fans were left disappointed that they didn’t get any new footage from ‘Star Trek: Discovery,’ and perhaps also a little confused at some of the comments they heard from the show’s creative team members that were in attendance. ‘Star Trek: Discovery,’ of course, is the new Trek series coming to audiences early next year. The show is currently scheduled to routinely run only on CBS All Access, the network’s streaming-only service. We received word last week that the show will not focus on the captain of the USS Discovery, but rather the female First Office, currently dubbed only as “Number One” (but reportedly a different character than the female “Number One” we were introduced to in the classic ‘Star Trek’ series). Bryan Fuller, showrunner of the unfortunately-acronymed ‘ST:D,’ was not live in attendance at Mission New York, although he did feature in a video about the series. Two writers of the series, Kirsten Beyer and Nicholas Meyer, were at the show and participated in the ‘Discovery’ panel.
