Speaking about what the original 1980s cartoon series meant to him, Smith had this to say: I watched all of the TV series growing up, it was everywhere in the ‘80s. These characters started off as toys and ended up becoming part of the global pop culture fabric. So much of this show has been possible because of the love and affection for this world at every level of production and the fandom surrounding this franchise. A big reason we got such top tier voice talent is because people genuinely want to be a part of this world. So many of us were touched by these stories and these characters early in our lives […]

This news was confirmed by Aaron Couch of The Hollywood Reporter: Sony has moved #Uncharted back 3 months. It now opens 3/5/2021. Masters of the Universe has been taken off the calendar (it previously occupied Uncharted’s new date) — Aaron Couch (@AaronCouch) January 25, 2020 The last update on this troubled production was in October when the rumor emerged that Sony was considering sending it straight to Netflix instead of theaters.  That sort of begs the question of why the studio plans to make it at all.  Netflix would make a nice home for a ‘Masters of the Universe’ movie as it has two separate cartoons based on the property in the works– ‘Masters of the Universe: Revelation’, an adult-skewing anime, with Kevin Smith producing, and ‘He-Man and the Masters of the Universe’, an all-ages take.  It already hosts the critically acclaimed […]

In addition to the TV series, DC Comics will publish a tie-in comic book series, and perhaps most excitingly, Mattel plans to relaunch the toy line!   RELATED:  Kevin Smith Will Spearhead ‘Masters Of The Universe: Revelation’ Anime For Netflix   Here is the series’ logline: “On the planet of Eternia, a young lost prince discovers the powers of Grayskull and transforms into He-Man, Master of the Universe! First, in 1985, an elaborate float was created by Mattel to promote its popular ‘Masters of the Universe’ and ‘Princess of Power’ toy lines.  The front of the float was a recreation of Castle Grayskull, while the rear was the Crystal Castle.  A giant serpent towered in between. Below you can find concept art for the float: This was one of the most technically advanced floats to ever appear in the Macy’s parade. Riding on the float were He-Man and She-Ra, their allies Angella, Buzz-Off, Castaspella, Frosta, Glimmer, Man-at-Arms, Moss Man, Orko, and Teela, and villains like Hordak, Skeletor, Beast Man, Catra, and Grizzlor.  Interestingly, even though the float was presumably meant to promote the toys, the ‘She-Ra’ characters are actually based on the way the characters looked on the cartoon, for instance, Castaspella’s outfit is blue and […]

Joe’, ‘Star Trek’, ‘Transformers’, LEGO, and Hello Kitty. The show is composed of behind the scenes interviews with the creators, designers, fans, and celebrities that reveal how these various toys were created.  The episodes follow these brands from inception, development, productions, the store pegs, and in some cases, decline. Due to the show’s success, things have gotten harder for the production team.   RELATED:  ‘The Toys That Made Us’ Season 3 Trailer Features ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’, ‘Power Rangers’, ‘My Little Pony’ And Wrestlers Speaking to Newsweek, show creator, and director, Brian Volk-Weiss said: “One of the biggest challenges we had was, because the show has been out already, a lot of the people […]

The creator of the new ‘She-Ra’ series, Noelle Stephenson says she wants ‘She-Ra’ to cross over with the new ‘He-Man’ series in a Christmas special, akin to the one that was released back in 1985.  At NYCC, she was asked if there were plans to bring the two shows together, to which she replied: “No, I would love to do a Christmas special crossover. I’m sure it’s going to be in a really totally dope powerhouse style and ours is going to be in our more candy-colored style. I would love to just bring those two styles together and have them celebrate Christmas and teach the power of love while they open presents. But as […]

Goyer, who was at one time attached to direct, was among the executive producers.  And heartthrob Noah Centineo was actively packing on the muscle to portray the ridiculously ripped barbarian hero, He-Man.  Sony had confidence that this picture would finally get made and scheduled it to be released on March 5, 2021. Now word has surfaced that Sony may wind up dumping it on Netflix rather than releasing it in theaters.  Sony is flying high after the $1 billion success of ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, and Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood’ is the top-grossing original film of the year.  But Sony has also had a string of underperformers and outright flops, the worst being the expensive ‘Men in Black: International’, which Sony had hoped would kick off a new franchise.  Sony is reportedly looking to avoid another expensive, high-profile dud.   RELATED:  Throwback Thursday: ‘Masters of the Universe’ (1987)   […]
