The cast of Netflix’s smash hit ‘Stranger Things’ recently got together for a podcast interview, and a lot of fun info about the show’s first two seasons – along with a few tidbits about the upcoming third season – was discussed.
Variety’s ‘Remote Controlled’ podcast featured a massive panel that included Executive Producer Shawn Levy and a slew of the show’s stars, including David Harbour (Chief Hopper), Winona Ryder (Joyce), Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Sadie Sink (Max), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Sean Astin (Bob), Joe Keery (Steve), Natalia Dyer (Nancy), and Charlie Heaton (Jonathan).
Some of the highlights of the conversation include Levy talking about the show’s sudden rise to popularity in the public eye:
“We made Season 1 in completely anonymity. We didn’t even have to work at it being a secret because no one cared! For Season 2, it was about going deeper in scope and even bigger in character.”
Brown got to speak about the mystery behind her character, Eleven:
“Everything happens so unexpectedly with her – [she is] difficult and deep. There’s no storyline behind her – yet. I don’t know where [she is] from, so that’s an issue. [In Season 3,] I want a relationship with Max. [Mike will] need to take a seat, because best friends come first… Eleven needs to have real fun, and needs some sense of normal in her life.”
Harbour, self-effacing as ever, spoke at length about his character’s ongoing evolution:
“[My character] may not be the best one on the show, [but he] has the best arc. In the first episode, Chief Hopper is a horrible human being… he does the wrong thing often. But then over Season 1, you get to see him become the man he is inside. It’s so beautiful to play that arc.”
Levy also speaks coyly about what we can expect from the third season, which he did confirm will be set in 1985:
“There are some new characters, more Erica, a new character played by Maya Hawke. Part of the fun for the [Duffer] brothers is to put new combinations of characters together…. More of those re-combos in Season 3, for sure.”
The third season of ‘Stranger Things’ will feature on Netflix, but no premiere date has yet been given.
