With Guillermo del Toro not directing ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising‘ and no word in quite some time on the proposed animated series one would think that it was dead in the water, but the director still has hope that it will see the light of day! Of course, the famed director is known for wanting to bring a multitude of works to the big screen which never happened such as ‘Hellboy 3‘, ‘At the Mountains of Madness,’ and his take on the ‘Silent Hill’ game among other things.
The director is still knee-deep in his next work, ‘The Shape of Water‘ which means that creating this series might be quite some time off if he would be in charge of it. Of course, if like ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ he is just on board as an executive producer this could still be in the works. I’m sure box office sales for the upcoming movie will convince the studio one way or another as to if they’ll be moving forward on the project.
It is hard to say when in the franchise’s timeline this animated series would even take place at this time.

Del Toro covers a ton of topics in this interview such as ‘Trollhunters, the ‘Pacific Rim’ franchise, the R-rating fiasco which killed ‘At the Mountains of Madness’, his upcoming film ‘The Shape of Water’, his work on the reboots for ‘Pinocchio’ and ‘The Fantastic Voyage,’ and so much more!
This interview is a fun little trek into the mind of one of the most creative minds in Hollywood who can’t help but constantly bite off more than he can chew.
