We know that Hasbro and Paramount Pictures are working on a ‘Micronauts’ movie that will be in a shared cinematic universe with other Hasbro properties but now it seems a cartoon is in the works as well! Details on the plot of the show as well as promotional artwork have popped up in the Hasbro Studios Sales Guide and it seems that the toy company is fully embracing its roots of coming up with cartoons to sell their toys.
I, for one, am perfectly okay with this!
We know that outside of the film and now television series that the toy maker has also recently licensed the franchise to IDW Publishing for an ongoing comic that will exist in the same comic universe as ‘Transformers’ and ‘G.I. Joe’ which the publisher also tackles.
As for what the cartoon will be about? Here is what has been shared so far:
When fate brings an unlikely team of alien space explorers to earth in pursuit of the evil Baron Karza, they make a shocking discovery – on our world they are the size of action figures!” explains a Hasbro marketing kit. “The Micronauts are small heroes in a big world but the stakes are higher than ever as their miniaturized size presents dangerous obstacles at every turn. Fortunately, they forge an alliance with teenager Cameron Ruck, who will join them in their pursuit of justice. Although the Micronauts are small in stature, their bravery and adventurous spirits remain larger than life.”
This cartoon won’t be aimed at adults as the target demographic is “6-11” though I’m sure fans who grew up with them will likely check out the show as well. The initial season is a planned 26 episode run which clocks in at 22-minutes per episode. Production is planned for 2018 with a 2019 release date.
At this time no network or streaming service is attached to the series.
The toys first began being released by Mego in 1976 based off of the Japanese ‘Microman’ toys and went strong until 1980. When Mego went bankrupt in 1982, the ownership changed hands between Palisades Toys, SOTA Toys, and now is held by Hasbro.
