Speaking about what the original 1980s cartoon series meant to him, Smith had this to say: I watched all of the TV series growing up, it was everywhere in the ‘80s. These characters started off as toys and ended up becoming part of the global pop culture fabric. So much of this show has been possible because of the love and affection for this world at every level of production and the fandom surrounding this franchise. A big reason we got such top tier voice talent is because people genuinely want to be a part of this world. So many of us were touched by these stories and these characters early in our lives […]

The First Teaser Trailer For Robert Kirkman’s ‘Invincible’ Has Arrived https://sciencefiction.com/2020/10/12/the-first-teaser-trailer-for-robert-kirkmans-invincible-has-arrived/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/10/12/the-first-teaser-trailer-for-robert-kirkmans-invincible-has-arrived/#disqus_thread Mon, 12 Oct 2020 19:39:25 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=355269 Robert Kirkman is known to many pop-culture fans as the man who created ‘The Walking Dead’ (technically co-created with artist and longtime collaborator Tony Moore), the Image Comics comic-book series that spawned a hugely successful TV show that is still running into its eleventh season on AMC – and which, in turn, has spawned several other series spin-offs as well. Before ‘The Walking Dead,’ however, Kirkman and artist Cory Walker co-created another title for Image: the son-of-a-famous-superhero-gets-powers-of-his-own tale ‘Invincible,’ and it was a massive hit.  Praised as a more realistic take on a superhero story, the series ran for 144 issues from 2003 to 2018.  Once set to be adapted into a feature film, ‘Invincible’ finds life as an adult-oriented animated series on Amazon’s Prime Video, coming to audiences next year in what’s reported to be an hour-long each, 8-episode first season. The voice cast for the new series is impressively long, and reads as a “who’s who” of genre stalwarts mixed with several mainstays of ‘The Walking Dead’ TV series.  Ranging from recurring roles to one-off appearances, the announced cast includes Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson/Invincible, J. K. Simmons as Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man, Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson, Mark Hamill […]

We’ve learned that the new series will land on Cartoon Network on March 8th, 2019 so it won’t be long until you can watch the show. Now, the first trailer is out for the female-lead series which stars Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl and more of their friends when they were teenagers and saving the world while also trying to live normal lives. We know how well that has worked out for every teenage hero in the past. The show will take place in Metropolis where we’ll see this group of heroes taking down “some of the most sinister school-aged Super-Villains of the DC Universe.” Check out the trailer right here!   An updated synopsis for the series has also been released which is a bit shorter than the original one from a year back but seems to tighten up what the show will be about: Saving the day is super easy when you’re a Super Hero. But stopping evil in its tracks while keeping up grades and managing a social life, […]

Here are run-downs of each of the four original shows and their crossover-culminating fifth shared series: ‘Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.’ centers around an egomaniacal supervillain with a really big head and a really little body, who struggles to maintain control of his evil organization and his demanding family. Writers Jordan Blum and Patton Oswalt will also executive produce along with Jeph Loeb. ‘Marvel’s Hit-Monkey tells’ the tale of a wronged Japanese snow monkey, mentored by the ghost of an American assassin, as he cuts a wide swath through the Tokyo underworld in this darkly cinematic and brutally funny revenge saga. Writers Josh Gordon and Will Speck will executive produce along with Jeph Loeb. ‘Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show’ is a story about two […]

Good News Everyone! Now, we have a new reason to be excited as it appears the new world is set in the same universe as ‘Futurama’ due to a time travel Easter Egg that pops up. Now, this isn’t a spoiler for the plot of the show but does give a brief hint of what to expect for a scene in the tenth episode of the first season. If you don’t mind a quick little continuity Easter Egg that ties these shows together then read on as Princess Bean, the demon Luci, and their friendly elf Elfo all might someday find a way to meet with Fry and the rest of the Planet Express crew. We already know that ‘The Simpsons’ existed as a cartoon show on ‘Futurama’ and had a crossover in an episode of ‘The Simpsons’ which could mean that they were directly connected, but this is our first hint at the fantasy world of Dreamland being part of things as well. In the tenth episode titled “Dreamland Falls,” we see Luci showing King Zog using a magic […]

‘Teen Titans GO! To the Movies‘ can’t either! In their latest marketing on Twitter, they poke fun at the fact that Deadpool was a direct ripoff of DC’s very own Deathstroke. Not only do the main characters find a fun way to antagonize their villain but poke fun at the Merc with the Mouth at the same time. Here is the tweet where a set of “text messages” had it all play out:   New phone, who dis? #TeenTitansGOMovie pic.twitter.com/MSqRY2kxVU — Teen Titans GO Movie (@TeenTitansMovie) June 6, 2018   Now, if you aren’t sure how Deadpool and Deathstroke are related to one another, I’ll take you down a quick trip on memory lane. In 1980 DC introduced the world to Slade Wilson, the mercenary, an assassin named Deathstroke. Flash forward 11 years, and Marvel gave us Wade Wilson who we all know as Deadpool. The two have quite similar names, codenames, professions, and outfits. While Deathstroke was a bit more of a serious character, we’ve seen over the years that Deadpool is the living parody and thoroughly lays into the comedy even in his darker moments. […]

Writer and director Brad Bird was able to show us how a ‘Fantastic Four’ movie should have been done with the first film and now is giving us another outing with the Parr family as they come up against new villains, new problems, and a baby who has all kinds of superpowers! First up, we have a look at Holly Hunter as Helen Parr. Not only is she the mother of the family but the fantastic Elastigirl as well! We know that this time around she’ll be leading the charge for the Supers to come back into the spotlight to save the world.   Next up we’ve got Craig T. Nelson as Bob Parr. While he was the focus of the first film, it looks like he’ll be more at home with the kids.   Sarah Vowell is Violet Parr and still wants to be a superhero, especially as her teenage life consists of being socially awkward.   Huckleberry “Huck” Milner plays […]

Details on the plot of the show as well as promotional artwork have popped up in the Hasbro Studios Sales Guide and it seems that the toy company is fully embracing its roots of coming up with cartoons to sell their toys. I, for one, am perfectly okay with this! We know that outside of the film and now television series that the toy maker has also recently licensed the franchise to IDW Publishing for an ongoing comic that will exist in the same comic universe as ‘Transformers’ and ‘G.I. Joe’ which the publisher also tackles. As for what the cartoon will be about? Here is what has been shared so far: When fate brings an unlikely team of alien space explorers to earth in pursuit of the evil Baron Karza, they make a shocking discovery – on our world they are the size of action figures!” explains a Hasbro marketing kit. “The Micronauts are small heroes in a big world but the […]

‘Batman: Gotham By Gaslight’ Will Be The Next DC Animated Film! https://sciencefiction.com/2017/07/10/batman-gotham-by-gaslight-will-next-dc-animated-film/ https://sciencefiction.com/2017/07/10/batman-gotham-by-gaslight-will-next-dc-animated-film/#disqus_thread Mon, 10 Jul 2017 23:28:19 +0000 http://sciencefiction.com/?p=254411 Until ‘Wonder Woman,’ the only DC films truly worth watching in recent years has been their amazing animated ones, and now we’ve learned that Warner Brothers is bringing us another in ‘Batman: Gotham By Gaslight’! With ‘Batman and Harley Quinn‘ not yet out, it is a bit surprising, in a good way, that we hear about the film so early and it sounds like one to be excited for. Jennifer Carpenter (‘Dexter’) had announced earlier this year that she would be doing voice work as Catwoman for an upcoming film by the same name. Catwoman wasn’t in the original story arc that this is being based off of so we’ll be seeing some alterations to the plot but with Catwoman currently stealing the spotlight as Bruce’s true love and wife to be, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we’d be seeing her pop up in other mediums. The synopsis for the film is below: In an age of mystery and superstition, how would the people of Gotham react to a weird creature of the night, a bat-garbed vigilante feared by the guilty and the innocent alike? The very first Elseworlds tale reimagines the Dark Knight detective in Victorian times […]

Unsurprising To All, ‘Batman And Harley Quinn’ Is Getting A Limited Theatrical Run! https://sciencefiction.com/2017/06/23/batman-and-harley-quinn-limited-theatrical-run/ https://sciencefiction.com/2017/06/23/batman-and-harley-quinn-limited-theatrical-run/#disqus_thread Fri, 23 Jun 2017 22:01:32 +0000 http://sciencefiction.com/?p=253131 We learned a year ago that ‘Batman and Harley Quinn’ was going to become a reality in an animated feature and now the inevitable limited cinematic release has been announced! Much like ‘Batman: The Killing Joke‘ and ‘Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders‘ received one, the latest animated adventure of the Caped Crusader will as well! We’ve seen Quinn work with Batman before, but in this outing, we’ll see them teaming up to stop both Poison Ivy and Floronic Man. Generally, Quinn and Ivy tend to be besties, so this will be fun to see the pair going at one another. For those looking forward to marking down when they can check the movie out it will be on the big screen on Monday, August 14th, 2017 at 7:30 PM! According to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Vice President, Family and Animation Marketing Mary Ellen Thomas: “Fans of DC Universe Original Movies are a devoted legion, and never was that so evident than with the enthusiastic embracing of our ‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ Fathom Events presentation. Audiences nationwide turned the screenings into true interactive experiences, and we believe ‘Batman and Harley Quinn’ will inspire a similar night of celebration.” Just as […]

We’ve Got The Sneak Peak At Disney XD’s ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ https://sciencefiction.com/2017/06/03/weve-got-the-sneak-peak-at-disney-xds-marvels-spider-man/ https://sciencefiction.com/2017/06/03/weve-got-the-sneak-peak-at-disney-xds-marvels-spider-man/#disqus_thread Sat, 03 Jun 2017 19:00:29 +0000 http://sciencefiction.com/?p=251359 If you can’t get enough of your favorite Wallcrawler in the style that was introduced in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and the upcoming ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ then you need to check out this sneak peak for Disney XD’s latest series – ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’. The outfit is obviously based off of the young Tom Holland played Peter Parker, and this iteration of the character seems to be in the same age range as well. The new show “tells the story of an unsure (but courageous) teen who has to figure out how to be a Super Hero from the very beginning.” This is clearly another young Spidey take which is perfect for Disney XD as we have the uncomfortable in his own skin Spidey trying to do what’s right and learn the ropes of being a superhero. You can check out the clip below which has your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man going toe to toe against Scorpion! The look and tone do look remarkably similar to ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ though I suspect we won’t be seeing any of The Avengers popping up too quickly or S.H.I.E.L.D. if they plan on trying to keep it differentiated from that series. While I like the look, voicework, […]

Guillermo Del Toro Still Wants An Animated ‘Pacific Rim’ Series https://sciencefiction.com/2017/04/12/guillermo-del-toro-still-wants-an-animated-pacific-rim-series/ https://sciencefiction.com/2017/04/12/guillermo-del-toro-still-wants-an-animated-pacific-rim-series/#disqus_thread Wed, 12 Apr 2017 13:00:47 +0000 http://sciencefiction.com/?p=246755 With Guillermo del Toro not directing ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising‘ and no word in quite some time on the proposed animated series one would think that it was dead in the water, but the director still has hope that it will see the light of day! Of course, the famed director is known for wanting to bring a multitude of works to the big screen which never happened such as ‘Hellboy 3‘, ‘At the Mountains of Madness,’ and his take on the ‘Silent Hill’ game among other things. The director is still knee-deep in his next work, ‘The Shape of Water‘ which means that creating this series might be quite some time off if he would be in charge of it. Of course, if like ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ he is just on board as an executive producer this could still be in the works. I’m sure box office sales for the upcoming movie will convince the studio one way or another as to if they’ll be moving forward on the project. It is hard to say when in the franchise’s timeline this animated series would even take place at this time. You can check the video right here: Del Toro covers […]

The series returns mid-March with a double feature that teams the galaxy’s most rag-tag group of superheroes with the might Avengers! Not only that, but Disney XD has a bonus in store for you as they will be releasing six short stories which follow “the adventures of the five main characters” that will be released daily starting February 27th! The shorts can be found “on the Disney XD app, VOD, and Disney XD’s YouTube.” With two episodes launching the new season we know that the first episode will be titled “Stayin’ Alive” and is described  as: “While trying to dispose of Thanos’ asteroid, the Guardians discover it has been taken to a secure facility that belongs to the Avengers.” After it airs, the second episode which tied this hour-long premiere together is titled “Evolution Rock”: “The Guardians and the Avengers team up to find out what powerful secrets lie inside Thanos’ asteroid.” It sounds like Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot will have quite a bit […]

The announcements are apparently set for well after ‘X-Men ResurrXion’ kicks off. With Marvel and Fox Studios seemingly patched up their differences from the cinematic franchises once Marvel Studios has split away, more collaboration has been happening and it seems like the mutants are going to be getting a lot more attention coming up. We already knew that the studios were working together on ‘Legion’ and the untitled ‘X-Men’ project though now a new cartoon is going to be happening. This isn’t to say that the mutants have been completely absent from cartoons in recent years. Wolverine and some of the other heavy players have shown up in other shows, but not as an ensemble team as fans have wanted. As we don’t have any real concrete details at this time my money is that it will be an entirely stand alone series and not be connected to the cinematic or televised universe that Fox already has in place or to the original animated […]
