‘Prison Break’ and ‘Percy Jackson’ actor Robert Knepper has landed two big roles in genre projects. First, he is joining the cast of ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts I and II” as Antonius. Wait who?! No, the character isn’t from the novel. He is described as “the minister to Panem President Coriolanus Snow (Donald Sutherland).” Just like almost every novel series, the final book in Suzanne Collins’ post-apocalyptic has been split into two movies, so that allows room for additional characters and storylines, a la Evangeline Lily‘s character Tauriel in ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ who didn’t appear in J.R.R. Tolkien’s original novel. (Or any for that matter.)
So there are a number of possibilities for this Antonius. He could be a freedom fighter. He may play a role in District 13. We really have no way of knowing, but the film arrives next year. Knepper joins fellow newbies Julianne Moore as President Alma Coin, Natalie Dormer as Cressida, and Lily Rabe as Commander Lyme.
In other news, he has also scored another TV role on the CW’s super hero hit ‘Arrow’.
He will join the vast array of DC villains that have terrorized Starling City and battled The Arrow as Clock King! In the comics, the character originated as a somewhat silly, time-themed villain with a laughable costume– a blue bodysuit with clocks all over it and a clock on his face. The image above shows a slightly toned down variation from ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’ on which the character was German. Despite originating as a Green Arrow villain, he’s been pitted against Batman in several adaptations.
Walter Slezak (above) battled Adam West’s Batman in the sixties series. The character was also utilized on ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ and ‘Justice League Unlimited’ where his alter ego was altered from William Tockman to Temple Fugit, a play on the Latin term “Tempus fugit” which translates to “Time Flies.”
The villain has no powers, which suits the stripped down tone of ‘Arrow’. He employs various time-themed gadgets. In ‘The Brave and the Bold’ he had two henchmen named Tick and Tock. I doubt the ‘Arrow’ approach will be the same.
‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 1’ opens on November 21, 2014, but Knepper should be cropping up on ‘Arrow’ when the show returns from its mid-season hiatus.
