The Vision, the Avengers’ mass-shifting android member is the most mysterious of the new characters being introduced in this summer’s highly anticipated ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’ Previously, British actor Paul Bettany provided the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S., the AI that ran Tony Stark’s Malibu mansion/base of operations in the ‘Iron Man’ films. Now Bettany, with a healthy assist from CGI, will be portraying The Vision leading many to speculate on whether or not there is a connection. And while very little is known about The Vision’s role in the upcoming movie, Bettany did make a statement that hints at the character not being a one-and-done hero.
Though neither he, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Quicksilver nor Scarlet Witch has their own movie in the works, there’s still ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ which, should it at least marginally follow the plot of the comic book whose name it shares, would require a pretty huge cast. And of course there’s the two-part ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ which promises an all new team. (Robert Downey Jr.’s contract expires with ‘Age of Ultron’ but he stated that he renegotiated to return at least for ‘Civil War,’ so Iron Man may be gone.)
But discussing his career, Bettany, whose current film ‘Mordecai’ with Johnny Depp is a box office bomb, states that the Marvel movies have given him a new sense of career security.
“That’s the really great thing about the Marvel gig for me. I have never known if I have had a job six months out ever in my life. And now I know that they have plans and I can be even more judicious about the stuff that I do outside of that work. I can wait for the right thing and feel really attached to it.”
That basically confirms that Marvel has more plans for The Vision down the line. The actor also revealed that he had never watched any of the Marvel movies, not even the ‘Iron Man’ films, but that in preparation for these upcoming projects he sat down and watched them all. “I realized they are so interlinked and I wanted to understand the universe.”
