David Tennant was in Los Angeles last week as part of the TCA Press Tour Panel for his miniseries ‘The Spies of Warsaw’. While in the City of Angeles, he sat down with G4’s ‘Attack of the Show’ to talk about the project, but the subject of a possible appearance in ‘Doctor Who’s’ 50th Anniversary came up instead.
Tennant was asked if he’s heard anything about what was being planned for ‘Doctor Who’ next year and if he’s been invited to don his famous pin striped suit once again. As one would expect, his response was neither a confirmation nor a denial as he replied, “I cannot be drawn on anything. Who knows what will happen next year? I’m sure there are lots of plans being discussed in quiet rooms by men with long beards and great power.”
When the interviewer laughingly commented that he would take that as a “yes,” Tennant added with a smirk, “You can take it any way you like! I am not confirming or denying anything!”
A few media outlets have taken Tennant’s response as a hidden confirmation of his involvement with the show next year citing his mannerisms and answer as the reason. But it is interesting to note that this is the first time that Tennant has given a non-answer. In the past, his reply when questioned about being part of the 50th anniversary was that he wasn’t asked to be in it.
Tennant also revealed that he does have the 10th Doctor suit “just in case” he was invited and that it is in a very secure place. “I have one of everything I wore,” he said, “It was given to me in hermetically sealed suit packs at the end which I’ve got squirreled away somewhere.”
As a huge fan of the man, I can only image how epic the 50th anniversary of ‘Doctor Who’ would be with the inclusion of Tennant. While I don’t really see how his response to the question indicates that we’ll be seeing the 10th Doctor once again, I will leave it for you to decide. Below is the interview segment in question including his thoughts of the Doctor not being part of the Olympic Opening Ceremonies.
So what say you? Do you think Tennant is hiding the big news or is he just being the playful guest that he is known to be?
