Snooch to the Nooch! It may have been two decades since indie darling director Kevin Smith’s sophomore effort hit theaters and flopped hard at the box office, but we are finally getting a proper toyline for ‘Mallrats’! Yes, the movie bombed at the box office, but in the twenty years since it’s initial release ‘Mallrats’ has found a home in our hearts and become a beloved cult classic film. Now we’re even set to receive a sequel in the form of a 10-episode television series that has been tenatively titled ‘Mallbrats’! Thanks to the team at Diamond Select Toys, we’re getting the first ever line of fully articulated figures (besides Minimates anyway) based on the fan favorite movie, and today we’re bringing you an exclusive first look at them!
Series One of Diamond Select Toys ‘Mallrats Select’ line first premiered at Toy Fair earlier this year, and is comprised of Brodie Bruce and Jay (of ‘Jay & Silent Bob’ fame!). Each figure boasts 16 points of articulation and includes character specific accessories like a giant cookie and a chocolate covered pretzel for Brodie, and a sock full of quarters and a baseball bat for Jay! To make things even better, this line if following suite from some of DST’s previous Kevin Smith based lines and include a backdrop diorama piece that connect to one another so that if you collect the whole set you will have a mall diorama backdrop for your display! Brodie is packed with a ‘Comic Toast’ diorama piece, and Jay comes packaged with your favorite carpeting store!
Now for our exclusive first look at ‘Mallrats Select’ Series Two! The second wave of ‘Mallrats Select’ figures is made up of Rene and Silent Bob (also of ‘Jay & Silent Bob’ fame! Who would have guessed?). These two are also set to feature 16 points of articulation each, and include some character specific accessories of their own! Rene will come packaged with a shopping bag, a video tape, and a mall diorama backdrop of the store ‘Fashionable Male’! Silent Bob is packed to the gills with his grappling gun, utility belt, and even an alternative head! Silent Bob also includes the mall diorama backdrop for the store ‘Popular Girl’.
The ‘Mallrats Select’ line from Diamond Select Toys go up for pre-order next week from DST’s website, and should also be available in the upcoming issue of Previews at your local comic shop!
