As though fans were not already excited enough for Sony’s ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ to open next month, now we have yet another new trailer to Marvel at (pun intended). The newest trailer, which clocks in at just under a minute, not only gives us a glimpse of what appears to be all of the different versions of Spider-Man we will see in the film (original Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Gwen, Peni Parker, and Peter Porker) and lets us hear what each of their voices sound like, but it also gives us our first look of one of Miles Morales’s coolest powers from the comics which will be featured in the movie.
The power I am referring to is Miles’ ability to turn invisible, one of the powers that he has that original Spider-Man does not (also on the list is the ability to shoot energy blast stingers at enemies). He and Peter Parker both learn about in a scene in the trailer in what appears to be an office building when they are about to be attacked, learning that it often kicks in when Miles is scared as a kind of “fight or flight” instinctual ability. This power, as well as his different upbringing, fighting style, and approach to his enemies help define Miles Morales as his own kind of Spider-Man in the comics, and it will be interesting to see those unique qualities come out in the movie. Sony will need to make sure audiences who may not know who Miles is can get to know the “new” Spider-Man and, hopefully, come to love this version of the character as much as the comic-book readers do. Especially if they want to build their own universe with Miles so they can have their cake (sharing original Spider-Man, Peter Parker, with Disney/ Marvel in the MCU) and eat it too (still have their own super-hero/ Spidey universe franchise, with Miles Morales instead of Peter).
Make sure to check out the new trailer for yourself below, and share your thoughts on all the different versions of Spidey, and how they are tackling Mile’s invisibility in the comments below! And make sure to check out ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ when it hits theaters next month on December 14th!
