After joining the Avengers, Paul Rudd is hopping over to another legendary team of cinematic adventurers– the Ghostbusters. Jason Reitman‘s new sequel/reboot, now officially entitled ‘Ghostbusters 2020’, will focus on a single mother, played by Carrie Coon, and her two kids, played by Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace, who move to a small town and discover the supernatural secrets concealed within. Rudd has signed on to portray a teacher.

Speaking to Variety, Reitman stated:
“I’ve been wanting to work with Paul Rudd since my short film opened for ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ at Sundance. I’m thrilled he’ll be joining this new chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe.”
The official ‘Ghostbusters’ Twitter account tweeted this video narrated by Rudd himself:

In true Rudd fashion, he quipped “I nearly slimed myself… I’m sliming myself right now.” But the big takeaway is that Rudd will be assembling with the new cast and crew this fall when production kicks off.
Specifics of the plot are being kept secret, but it has been rumored that Coon (who, like Rudd, appeared in ‘Avengers: Endgame, portraying Proxima Midnight) will portray the daughter of Egon Spengler, who was played in the original movies by the late Harold Ramis. Sigourney Weaver has admitted that she will appear in the new film as Dana Barrett, and she indicated that she was looking forward to reuniting with “the guys.” Annie Potts has also teased that her character Jeanine would also be back. It’s assumed this means the other cast members– Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Bill Murray will also return.
Allegedly, the setting shifts from New York City to a small town. Beyond that, we’ll have to wait and see.
‘Ghostbusters 2020’ is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 10, 2020.
