Carrie Coon and Finn Wolfhard are in talks with Sony to star in Jason Reitman‘s sequel to ‘Ghostbusters’. Reitman will direct the film, which he co-wrote with Gil Kenan. Reitman calls his scripts a “love letter to [the original] ‘Ghostbusters’.”
Though everyone is staying mum about details of the film, it is rumored that it focuses on a single mother– the role Coon is in talks to play– and her children, which would include Wolfhard, who move to a mysterious small town and begin discovering the secrets hidden there.
Wolfhard is no… *ahem* stranger to bizarre happenings in a small town since he broke out in Netflix’s sensation ‘Stranger Things’. He recently wrapped Season 3, which premieres on Netflix in July. He will also be back in another supernatural drama, ‘It: Chapter Two’. Wolfhard starred as Richie Tozier in ‘Chapter One’, and will return in flashbacks in the followup which focuses on the same characters as adults. He will also appear in October’s ‘The Goldfinch’, as part of an all-star ensemble that includes Nicole Kidman, Sarah Paulson, Alsen Elgort, Jeffrey Wright, and Luke Wilson. He lends his voice to the series ‘Carmen Sandiego’, and will also be heard in the upcoming animated film ‘The Addams Family’ as Pugsley. He will return in another horror movie, ‘The Turning’ which wil; be released next year.
Coon was unrecognizable in her role as the villain Proxima Midnight in last year’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. Her face may be more familiar from starring on Season 3 of FX’s ‘Fargo, USA’s ‘The Sinner’, and HBO’s ‘The Leftovers’ and from the films ‘The Legacy of the Whitetail Deer Hunter’, ‘Kin’, and ‘Widows’.
Despite its small-town setting, Reitman’s ‘Ghostbusters’ is said to be a sequel to the two original ‘Ghostbusters’ movies and will not reference 2016’s all-female reboot.
This new take on ‘Ghostbusters’ already has a release date of July 10, 2020.
