S.J. Clarkson of ‘Jessica Jones’ and ‘Orange Is The New Black’ was revealed to be the first female director to lead a ‘Star Trek’ film. Production for the film is set to begin early next year, and Clarkson has started assembling her cast. We’ve learned that two new female characters will take on major supporting roles.
Clarkson is using a script from J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay and is in the process of finding two actresses, aged 45-60, for the film’s main antagonist and additional female hero. Sources close to the film say that Clarkson was originally interested in Tilda Swinton for the villain, however, Swinton will not appear in the film. Danai Gurira was recently revealed to be in talks for an undisclosed role in the film, so fans may be seeing her in one of the roles!
Paramount CEO Jim Gianopulos announced recently that the studio has plans for at least two more movies in the ‘Trek’ franchise. Clarkson’s film will feature a time travel narrative and the other film is still seeking a director.
‘Star Trek 4’ will serve to reunite Captain James T. Kirk with his father, George Kirk, played by Chris Hemsworth. The official tagline for the film reads:
“Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never got to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father.”
