Gwyneth Paltrow had no idea she was in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’! She appeared on the new Netflix series ‘The Chef Show’, which just dropped its first season. The series features Jon Favreau and celebrity chef Roy Choi who helped train Favreau for his 2014 movie ‘Chef’. As part of the first episode, Favreau and Choi drop in on Favreau’s frequent co-star Gwyneth Paltrow who portrayed Pepper Potts, opposite Favreau’s Happy Hogan in the various Marvel movies, including the ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Avengers’ movies… and ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, although it appears that Paltrow didn’t realize she was even making that last one.
Paltrow begins by asking what they are filming, to which Favreau responds, “We don’t know. We just started filming.” He then mentions that he started filming while they were making ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’.
This was their following exchange:
Paltrow: “Spider-Man??”
Favreau: “Yeah, when we were in Spider-Man together. Remember when we were in Spider-Man?”
Paltrow: “We weren’t in Spider-Man.”
Favreau: “Yes we were.”
Choi: “Homecoming.”
Favreau: “You were in Spider-Man.”
Paltrow: “No, I was in Avengers.”
Favreau: “You were in Spider-Man also.”
Favreau: “Remember, it’s Spider-Man at the end, and Tom Holland’s there, and you’re gonna walk out and do a press conference?”
Paltrow: “Oh yes!”
Favreau: “That was Spider-Man.”
Paltrow: “That was Spider-Man?? Oh my god.”

Gwyneth Paltrow genuinely did not know she was in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” so this adorable interaction from “The Chef Show” is easily my favorite thing on the internet today pic.twitter.com/lc3VlSs1Hp

As Entertainment Weekly pointed out, Chris O’Dowd (‘State of the Union’) had a similar reaction, when he was reminded that he had appeared in ‘Thor: The Dark World’. After being asked if his character had survived Thanos’ snap, he reacted:
“Oh my god, I totally forgot I was in that one until you just mentioned it.”
O’Dowd’s character, Richard, has an ill-fated dinner date with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster. In all fairness, maybe he thought he was filming another romcom, like ‘Juliet, Naked’ or ‘The Incredible Jessica James’.
As for Paltrow? She probably only had to show up for a day to film her scene for ‘Homecoming’. The same is probably true of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. It probably all just runs together.
Paltrow’s Pepper Potts and Favreau’s Happy Hogan can currently be seen in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Favreau will be back in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’. ‘The Chef Show’ Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
