Casey Bloys, president, HBO Programming, stated: “From the Western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.  We can’t wait […]

Pearls Of Wisdom: How Many Characters Is Dolores Controlling In ‘Westworld’ S3? Evan Rachel Wood And Jonathan Nolan Speak https://sciencefiction.com/2020/04/07/pearls-of-wisdom-how-many-characters-is-dolores-controlling-in-westworld-s3-evan-rachel-wood-and-jonathan-nolan-speak/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/04/07/pearls-of-wisdom-how-many-characters-is-dolores-controlling-in-westworld-s3-evan-rachel-wood-and-jonathan-nolan-speak/#disqus_thread Tue, 07 Apr 2020 18:06:17 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=352720 SPOILER ALERT: If you are not completely caught up on ‘Westworld’, this article contains huge SPOILERS for the first three episodes of Season 3. If there were ever any questions that HBO’s ‘Westworld’ was “The Dolores Show,” the revelations from Ep. 3 of Season 3, “Mother of Exiles,” confirms that Evan Rachel Wood’s free host is calling the shots of not just her own regular form, but three others.  Dolores’ consciousness is operating the bodies of Tessa Thompson‘s Charlotte Hale (in a composite some fans are calling “Halores,” a combo of Hale and Dolores), Tommy Flanagan’s Martin Connells (“Connellores”), and Hiroyuki Sanada’s Musashi, a Shogun Warrior from last season’s Shogunworld (“Yakuzalores”).  Who is the fourth?  Wood herself divulged to Deadline: “Bernard is one.” These bodies under her control are called “pearls” and it is known that Dolores has five pearls.  However, fans will have to continue to tune in to discover who that fifth pearl is, not to mention how they will all work together… if they are going to work together. But there are clues, as Wood pointed out an aspect that viewers may have overlooked– wardrobe. “It’s Dolores. Dolores kills Maeve as Musashi. She’s in Musashi, she’s in […]

New ‘Westworld’ BTS Video Explores The World Outside Of The Park https://sciencefiction.com/2020/03/13/new-westworld-bts-video-explores-the-world-outside-of-the-park/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/03/13/new-westworld-bts-video-explores-the-world-outside-of-the-park/#disqus_thread Fri, 13 Mar 2020 22:04:16 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=352440 After over a year, the new season of ‘Westworld’ is almost here, and it promises to be a fresh start.  While Seasons 1 and 2 almost exclusively took place in the virtual wonderlands where the wealthy pay to spend their vacations in fantasy environments populated with hosts, androids that look and act like humans, that the humans can kill or fornicate with to their hearts’ desires. But the new season opens the door on the real world, the futuristic society populated with humans, most of which are not the wealthy Westworld vacationers.  Considering the cutting edge technology employed in Westworld and the other false realities, how has that tech changed the outside world? The series will dive deeper into that question, but for now, here is a short behind-the-scenes video released by HBO that explores this world.  While on the surface, it looks similar to our everyday reality, the flying cars and worker robots take things into the future. Check it out below: Season 3 introduces three new characters played by Aaron Paul (Caleb), Lena Waithe (Ash), and Marshawn Lynch (role unknown).  These are humans (at least so it seems at this point), indicating that the new episodes will perhaps focus more […]

Instead of the isolated and manufactured “worlds” of the park, the remaining Hosts are now out among the rest of the world’s humans, able to see the world as it really is. While speaking to Variety at the red carpet premiere for Season 3 at the TCL Chinese theater, star Tessa Thompson (Charlotte Hale) stated: “…it feels like the show is starting all over again…In a weird way, it feels like this is the premiere of the show again because we have entered the real world and the show continues to ask the question what it means to be human, but it’s asking a host – pun intended – of new questions. We have lots of people that have come to join our cast, fresh blood, so it feels like the show is starting all over again. It’s a show that surprises not just the audience, but surprised the people […]

HBO realizes this hunger hence why “hidden trailers” keep popping up over the internet with the newest ones being found in a viral website called “Incite, Inc.,” a fictional website for a company within the ‘Westworld’ universe. At this point, we have 4 trailers for the series, the first being the official trailer from HBO with the ‘Sweet Child of Mine’ music at the end that most people have seen thanks to the standard promotion from the network.     Next we have two new trailers (to be clear, a lot of these do have the same visuals, with only a handful of new clips, voice-over, and dialogue, though the music is mostly different in each) called ‘Free Will Is Not Free’ and ‘Your World,’ which maintain the serious tone of the original HBO trailer though they do not have the ‘Sweet Child of Mine’ song in them, even though one of them uses all the same footage from that montage.       The craziest trailer by far is called […]

‘Westworld’ S3 Trailer Teases A Dolores Vs. Maeve Clash https://sciencefiction.com/2020/02/20/westworld-s3-trailer-teases-a-dolores-vs-maeve-clash/ https://sciencefiction.com/2020/02/20/westworld-s3-trailer-teases-a-dolores-vs-maeve-clash/#disqus_thread Thu, 20 Feb 2020 20:30:46 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=351337 The hosts have broken free, but where do they go from here?  At long last, the third season of HBO’s ‘Westworld’ is nearly upon us, and HBO has released a new trailer that offers a tease of what to expect.  Perhaps the biggest leap is that Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) has journeyed into the outside world and has found a potential kindred spirit in construction worker Caleb (Aaron Paul), who, like a host, has seemingly had his entire life programmed by those with more power or money. It seems that after causing Westworld to collapse, Dolores might be plotting the destruction of all of society.  As she puts it, she may have to do things the “old fashioned way” which is to “kill everyone.”  But there might be someone that comes between her and that goal — Maeve (Thandie Newton).  It seems a mysterious new figure (Vincent Cassel) has entered the equation and has tasked Maeve with one mission — to kill Dolores.   RELATED:  The Third Season Of ‘Westworld’ Will Be Shorter Than The First Two   The new trailer also offers glimpses of Bernard (Jeffrey Wright), Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth), Hale (Tessa Thompson), and William (Ed Harris).  It looks […]

You can view the new poster below: Evan Rachel Wood (Dolores), Ed Harris (the Man in Black), Thandie Newton (Maeve), Tessa Thompson (Charlotte), and Jeffrey Wright (Bernard) will return for Season 3, which will also welcome newcomers Aaron Paul, Lena Waithe, Kid Cudi, Marshawn Lynch, Vincent Cassel, John Gallagher Jr., Scott Mescudi, Michael Ealy, and Tommy Flanagan.   RELATED:  ‘Westworld’ Season 3 Trailer Reveals Real-World Drama   We already know that Dolores will find herself in the real world, which has been teased in the trailers.  While in earlier clips, this future society looked a little like today’s world — except with robots and flying cars — more recent releases have teased that the 45th President of the United States is being impeached, Russia is about to descend into its second civil war, and the rest of the world is rocked […]

Jeffrey Wright May Be The New Commissioner Gordon In ‘The Batman’ https://sciencefiction.com/2019/09/23/jeffrey-wright-may-be-the-new-commissioner-gordon-in-the-batman/ https://sciencefiction.com/2019/09/23/jeffrey-wright-may-be-the-new-commissioner-gordon-in-the-batman/#disqus_thread Tue, 24 Sep 2019 00:18:13 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=337734 Jeffrey Wright can dust off the sand from ‘Westworld’, but where he’s going, it’s even grimier.  The Hollywood Reporter has… er, reported that Wright is in negotiations to play Commissioner James “Jim” Gordon in Matt Reeves’ DC Comics reboot flick ‘The Batman’.  He will be starring opposite Robert Pattinson, who was announced as the new big-screen Dark Knight at the end of May.  No one else has been officially announced as part of the cast, although there have been plenty of rumors, including one that stated that Reeves had met with Mahershala Ali for the role of Gordon. Commissioner Gordon is one of Batman’s longest-running supporting cast members, making his debut in ‘Detective Comics’ #27, the issue that first introduced the Dark Knight himself.  Ben McKenzie recently portrayed a much younger take on Gordon on ‘Gotham’.  Before him, Neil Hamilton played the role on the 1960s ‘Batman’ TV show and in the tie-in movie.  In film, Lyle Talbot, Pat Hingle, Gary Oldman, and J.K. Simmons have also depicted him.   RELATED: ‘Westworld’ Star Jeffrey Wright On What Season Two Has In Store For Bernard   Considering that ‘The Batman’ focuses on a period early into the crime fighter’s career, it’s […]

The Third Season Of ‘Westworld’ Will Be Shorter Than The First Two https://sciencefiction.com/2019/09/06/the-third-season-of-westworld-will-be-shorter-than-the-first-two/ https://sciencefiction.com/2019/09/06/the-third-season-of-westworld-will-be-shorter-than-the-first-two/#disqus_thread Fri, 06 Sep 2019 19:28:38 +0000 https://sciencefiction.com/?p=336071 Not only is the break between seasons of ‘Westworld’ already massive– about a year and a half– but now HBO has added even more bad news.  Season 3 will only be comprised of eight episodes, versus the ten for the first two.  One potential saving grace is that ‘Westworld’ episodes aren’t limited to a certain length.  While most are about an hour-long, that’s also without commercials, so they are longer than most “hour-long” dramas.  The season finales have been 90-minutes long, while the series premiers have been about an hour and ten minutes long, as have a couple of other random episodes.  It’s safe to assume that the premier and finale will be extra long, but there is also the possibility that some other episodes may also run over an hour.  That’s not a guarantee, but here’s hoping. At the end of last season, Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) escaped into the real world, a futuristic version of Los Angeles, and as we’ve seen in the trailers, she runs into Aaron Paul as Caleb, a new character who is a down-on-his-luck construction worker.  Meanwhile, Maeve (Thandie Newton) finds herself in a World War II section of the park.   RELATED:  SDCC […]
