Rob Liefeld Says Disney Doesn’t Plan On Making ‘Deadpool 3’ For At Least Five Years

Don’t expect to see a third ‘Deadpool’ movie anytime soon. Rob Liefeld, the comic book writer/illustrator that co-created the character with Fabian Nicieza, says that he has seen Marvel’s list of Marvel projects for the next five years and ‘Deadpool 3’ isn’t on it. In an interview with iO9, Liefeld disclosed: “Until a movie is put on a schedule, it’s not taken seriously. And what people don’t like is that I have assessed the schedule for the next — give or take — five years and I don’t see ‘Deadpool’ on it. I don’t see that it can arrive earlier than that.” Liefeld previously divulged to fans that Marvel Studios had “zero” plans for ‘Deadpool’, with some questioning his reliability. After all, he isn’t actively involved with any movies, even the ‘Deadpool’ flicks which were made by 20th Century Fox before it was bought out by Disney. He gets a credit for co-creating the character and he gets to go to the premieres. That’s it. Tim Miller Admits Why He Didn’t Return To Direct ‘Deadpool 2’

Is director Tim Miller hard to work with? Or is it just everyone else? It was no secret that Miller and producer James Cameron butted heads while making the recent flop ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’. Part of what landed Miller the job of directing this picture was his work on the box office smash ‘Deadpool’, but he did not return to helm the sequel, ‘Deadpool 2’, due to creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds. Now, Miller has shed a little light on this situation. While discussing the failure of ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’, he revealed to The Hollywood Reporter: “It became clear that Ryan wanted to be in control of the franchise. You can work that way as a director, quite successfully, but I can’t.” In all fairness, ‘Deadpool’ only got made because of Reynolds’ tenacity. Reynolds played a heavily altered version of the character, a.k.a. Wade Wilson in 2009’s ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’. (The merc without a mouth?!) ‘Deadpool’ And ‘The Family Guy’ Will Go To Hulu, Not Disney+

Following the announcement of Disney+, Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, which suddenly made Disney the 2/3rds ower of Hulu. Comcast then opted to sell its 1/3rd to Disney, which now had controlling interest, making Disney the sole-owner of another streaming service. (Comcast is instead offering up the NBC-based Peacock service.) But it’s working out well, as Disney+ was always intended to be appropriate for all ages, and there is a lot of material in the Fox library that doesn’t qualify, including the Marvel-based ‘Deadpool’ movies. And while Disney has been heavily promoting the fact that Disney+ will be the only streaming service where viewers can find ‘The Simpsons’, another animated Fox hit, ‘The Family Guy’ is just a little too raunchy. Both ‘Deadpool’ and ‘The Family Guy’ will be available on Hulu and not Disney+. Marvel Television Head Jeph Loeb Announces His Exit Following Kevin Feige Being Placed In Charge

In what should come as no surprise at all, Jeph Loeb will exit his position as the head of Marvel Television. Marvel TV and movie-makers Marvel Studios have always had a tumultuous coexistence, and now that Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige has been named Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer, controlling not just the films, but TV and comics, expect this to be just the first of many changes. Loeb, who landed the position of Executive Vice President, Head of Television, in 2010, is working on an exit strategy and is expected to announce his departure by Thanksgiving. (Geez, Happy Freakin’ Holidays.) Insiders say that Loeb has been planning his exit prior to the announcement of Feige’s promotion on October 15. While that is meant to imply that Loeb’s exit has nothing to do with Feige’s new position, what it probably really means is that Loeb knew about the big changes coming before the news was made public. With all of the big Disney and MCU news of late with Disney+ bringing us more Loki, Hawkey, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Scarlett Witch and Vision stories, and Sony and Marvel making another deal so Spider-Man can return to the MCU for a third movie and another cameo, one might forget that a lot of fans are still hungry to see how Ryan Reynold’s ‘Deadpool’ franchise is going to fit into everything now that 20th Century Fox is also under the Disney umbrella. ‘Deadpool 2’ Director Says The Third Movie May Not Be Rated-R

Can a ‘Deadpool’ movie work with a PG-13 rating? ‘Once Upon a Deadpool’ would seem to indicate not, but David Leitch seems to think so. Leitch directed ‘Deadpool 2’ which was toned down into ‘Once Upon a Deadpool’, which barely made a ripple at the box office last fall. Speaking to Yahoo! Movies, the helmer said: “It’s rated R so that’s not necessarily the [MCU] brand but he doesn’t necessarily need to be R and [Disney] don’t necessarily need to only make PG-13 movies. I think we’ll find a happy ground… There’s a lot of mystery still surrounding what they want to do with Deadpool in [Disney’s] Marvel world but I think, from discussions that I’ve heard, it’s all positive. I think that they’re just trying to figure a way in as Deadpool’s hard.” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige teased that “mutants” were coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, now that Disney owns 20th Century Fox. Technically, Deadpool is not a mutant, but he is firmly part of the ‘X-Men’ brand. Not Surprisingly, 20th Century Fox Won’t Be At SDCC This Year

Like Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox is sitting out San Diego Comic-Con International this year. This should come as no surprise, as Fox was just bought out by Disney in March and the dust is still settling. Various people in various positions within the company have been given their walking papers. Disney quickly went to work scrapping movies that Fox had in the pipeline, including the stop-motion ‘Mouse Guard’, which had been in development with plans for it to kick off a franchise. All of that is on top of the fact that Fox has never had a huge presence at SDCC to begin with. The biggest movie that Fox has in the works is the first of four ‘Avatar’ sequels, but that isn’t due until December 2021, and director James Cameron is filming multiple movies at once. Post-production may not have even started, so there is probably nothing to show. Longtime ‘X-Men’ Producer Lauren Shuler Donner Wants It To Be Known That She Had “Zero” To Do With ‘Dark Phoenix’

A longtime ‘X-Men’ movie producer wants to make sure that the stench of ‘Dark Phoenix’s failure doesn’t taint her own career, even though she is listed as one of the picture’s producers. In a tweet that has since been deleted, Lauren Shuler Donner wrote: “Save your condolences. I had zero, nothing to do with Dark Phoenix. Or Apocalypse, or New Mutants.” Heroic Hollywood managed to screen cap the tweet before Donner deleted it. Donner (married to Richard Donner) has been a producer on the ‘X-Men’ franchise since the first movie in 2000, but she reportedly walked away during the production of ‘Days of Future Past’ over “creative differences” but thanks to a “generous” contract agreement, she retained a producer’s credit (and paycheck) on all subsequent movies. While Fox insiders (per The Hollywood Reporter) admit that it’s true that Donner didn’t have anything to do with ‘Dark Phoenix’, the poorly-received ‘Apocalypse’, or the unreleased ‘New Mutants’, she also had “zero” to do with the hits ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Deadpool 2’, the two highest-grossing films in the entire franchise, or ‘Logan’, the first comic book movie to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
