DC Universe has renewed ‘Titans’ for a third season, exclusively on this streaming service. Back in July, it was announced that DC Universe’s second original series, ‘Doom Patrol’ had been renewed for a sophomore season that would be released simultaneously on DC Universe and the larger WarnerMedia streaming service HBO Max.
It was recently announced that HBO Max would be the home to every DC theatrical movie released over the last 40 years, most of which are not available on DC Universe, despite it being touted as the home for all things DC. That was followed by the announcement that Greg Berlanti was developing two new DC shows for HBO Max, ‘Green Lantern’ and ‘Strange Adventures’, with Elizabeth Banks developing a separate comedy series, ‘DC Super Hero High’.

It seemed the writing was on the wall, and that DC Universe would eventually be shuttered, with the original programming shifting over to HBO Max. But this renewal of ‘Titans’, strictly for DCU, seems to be an endorsement that the small service will continue. (Netflix offers ‘Titans’ outside of the U.S.)
Created by Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, and Geoff Johns, ‘Titans’ was the first original program offered by DC Universe, which launched late last year. After making a splash at SDCC thanks to its infamous “F*** Batman” trailer, the show kicked off last October. At that time, Goldsman stated that ‘Titans’ was expected to run for at least three seasons, although if the popularity holds up, it could carry on beyond that.
The series stars Brenton Thwaites as Dick Grayson, who abandoned his identity as Robin in the first season, but has yet to become Nightwing; Anna Diop as alien princess Starfire/Koriand’r; Teagan Croft, as half-human, half-demon Raven/Rachel Roth; Ryan Potter as Beast-Boy/Gar Logan; Curran Walters, as Dick’s successor, Jason Todd, the second Robin; Conor Leslie, as Wonder Woman’s younger sister, Wonder Girl/Donna Troy; Minka Kelly, as Dove/Dawn Granger; and Alan Ritchson as her partner Hawk/Hank Hall. The second season added Esai Morales as the Titans’ archenemy Deathstroke the Terminator; Chelsea T. Zhang as his daughter, Rose; and Joshua Orpin as Conner, the clone of Superman and Lex Luthor. It remains to be seen if all of them make it to the final episode. (Although if Dick doesn’t become Nightwing by then, there might be blood in the streets.)
Speaking of that, the 11th episode of ‘Titans’ Season 2, ‘E.L._.O.’ will be released on Friday. It is believed that there will be 13 episodes of this season total.
