On Sunday, Hollywood will hand out its highest honors, the Academy Awards. And in accordance, a separate voting body will fling out the Golden Raspberry Awards, for the worst that cinema had to offer in 2019. This marks the 40th year for the Razzies, and they’re doing something different this time. Usually, the Razzie nominees are announced shortly after the Oscars’ are, and the prizes are given out on the Saturday before the Oscars ceremony. This year, the nominees were announced the Friday before the Academy Awards. Last year was the first time the ceremony was televised, and this year’s will be too, however, the date has yet to be determined. This appears to be due to the fact that the Oscars are being held earlier in the year than normal. (Last year, both awards were given out on the first weekend of March.) Care to hazard a guess as to which 2019 cinematic atrocity garnered the most Razzie noms? Believe it or not, it was a three-way tie! …BUT OF COURSE, ONE OF THEM WAS ‘CATS’! Hints About HBO Max’s ‘Green Lantern’ Series Make The ‘Green Lantern Corps’ Movie Unlikely

The CW and parent company Warner Brothers slammed fans with repeated shocks in the finale of the crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths” including a few surprises that no one was expecting, like Ezra Miller‘s cameo as the cinematic Barry Allen/The Flash, and a brief clip toward the end revealing the first glimpse of the upcoming ‘Green Lantern’ TV series (above). At the end of October, HBO Max announced plans for “a Green Lantern-inspired project,” but that could mean a number of things. We now know that HBO is delivering an actual ‘Green Lantern’ TV show, produced by Greg Berlanti, the mastermind behind The CW’s Arrowverse. Even though HBO Max’s head of original programming, Sarah Aubrey says that the streaming service is only in the “early stages of talking to him about,” the fact that a preview was included on this episode of ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ would indicate that this show will arrive sooner rather than later. HBO Max itself launches in the spring of this year. Aubrey revealed that this series “will span several decades and focus on the origin stories of two major Green Lanterns on Earth” as well one in space, “going into the Sinestro story.” […]

Alexander Skarsgård first gained major notice on the sexy HBO vampire series ‘True Blood’ which was equal parts gore and froth, but more recently, he’s taken steps to become *gasp* respectable. He has won a Golden Globe, an Emmy, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and more for his role on HBO’s acclaimed ‘Big Little Lies’. But sometimes those types of roles take a toll, which is why the Swedish-born actor says he jumped at the chance to star in a straight-up popcorn flick, next year’s ‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’. “I’d done a row of darker, very intense subject matters and darker roles, like The Kill Team, The Aftermath, The Little Drummer Girl, a limited series that I did about the conflict in the Middle East, Hold the Dark, which was a Netflix movie that was also very, very dark, and Big Little Lies, which was about abuse. Aisha Tyler Will Host This Year’s Saturn Awards Which Will Be Available To Stream For The First Time Ever

The 45th annual Saturn Awards will be held this Friday, September 13th, at 9:00 pm EST/6pm PST, at the Avalon Theater in Hollywood, and it has been announced that noted fangirl Aisha Tyler will host the event. For the first time, these awards will be broadcast via Cinedigm, Nerdist, the newly launched Pluto TV Sci-Fi Channel, Shout Factory TV, Twitch, WatchMojo.com, and on the Saturn Awards channel on YouTube. Tyler is a notable stand-up comedian and actor. She hosts ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’, plays Doctor Tara Lewis on ‘Criminal Minds’ and provides the voice of Lana Kane on ‘Archer’. (Incidentally, ‘Archer’ is nominated for Best Animated TV Series.) Among her previous credits are ‘The Ghost Whisperer’, ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’, ’24’, and ‘Friends’. The Oscars, Golden Globes, and Emmys exist to award the best in the arts of film and television, but they rarely reflect what is actually popular among the general public. That’s where the E! People’s Choice Awards comes in. These awards are voted on by the public and their choices are movies and TV shows that people are likely to have already seen. Even though the year isn’t over, nominees are limited to entries from 2019, so while all the superhero movies from this year got multiple nominations– even ‘Dark Phoenix‘– ‘Aquaman‘ and ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse‘ are nowhere to be found. This also means that basically nothing released in September through December of any year will ever be eligible for the People’s Choice Awards. That seems like a flaw in the system. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ received a large number of nominations in the film categories. It’s up for Movie of 2019, and Action Movie of 2019.
