For some, the launch of Disney+ was a fairy tale come true! Unfortunately, the new streaming service was not free of villains, and a number of customers fell victim to the proverbial poison apple! Okay, enough Disney puns, I swear.
Thousands of Disney+ customers have reported that their accounts have been hacked. Tech site ZDNet conducted an investigation that revealed hackers have stolen thousands of customers’ accounts and put them up for sale on the dark web. Some for as little as $3.

Several customers say they are still waiting for their accounts to be restored. Users have also expressed concern because they can still use their same Disney+ login credentials to access the Disney store and Disney theme park accounts.
While many customers claimed to set up new user IDs and passwords when creating their accounts, online data analysts say some accounts were stolen because people use the same passwords for different sites.
In a recent interview about the security breach, Disney said:
“Disney takes the privacy and security of our users’ data very seriously and there is no indication of a security breach on Disney+.”
Disney also indicated that all personal accounts are locked if the studio detects suspicious activity.
Disney+ launched last week in the U.S., Canada, and the Netherlands. Disney indicates that the streaming service has already garnered 10M subscribers, with monthly sign-up costing $7.
