Fantasy Island

Fans of the original ‘Fantasy Island’ may have fond memories of the quirky series from the 1970s about characters obtaining their deepest desires with the help of Mr. Roarke (Ricardo Montalban) and Tattoo (Herve Villechaize). Blumhouse’s upcoming big-screen adaptation, however,  will shine a light on the more sinister themes of the series.

In Blumhouse’s reboot of ‘Fantasy Island,’ Michael Pena portrays the enigmatic Mr. Roarke who makes the secret dreams of his lucky guests come true at a luxurious but remote tropical resort. But when the fantasies turn into nightmares, the guests have to solve the island’s mystery in order to escape with their lives.

‘Fantasy Island’ also stars Maggie Q (‘Divergent,’ ‘Live Free or Die Hard’), Lucy Hale (‘Pretty Little Liars,’ ‘Truth or Dare’), Austin Stowell (‘Catch 22,’ ‘Battle of the Sexes’), Portia Doubleday (‘Carrie’), Jimmy O. Yang (‘Silicon Valley’), and Ryan Hansen (‘Veronica Mars,’ ‘Friday the 13th’). ‘Kick-Ass 2’ and ‘Truth or Dare’s’ Jeff Wadlow will direct from a script he co-wrote with Jillian Jacobs & Christopher Roach.

In a recent interview, Hale gushed about the film’s tropical setting, saying:

“We got to film in Fiji for two months, which was incredible. I never met Maggie before, and we’ve gotten very close.”

Blumhouse has seen massive success with its other franchises and the company’s founder, Jason Blum, has mentioned that the studio is considering the idea of a connected cinematic universe.

“I did. We would like to do that, we’re thinking about it. I probably should have — it would have been easier to do what I thought of it earlier, but we’re thinking about doing it, with some of them, anyway. And it’s something that I’d really like to do.”

‘Fantasy Island’ opens in theaters on February 14, 2020.
