Scarlet Witch Unleashes The Magic Of The Darkhold On The Marvel Universe

The Darkhold has a long and storied history in the Marvel Universe – both in the comics, where it was first introduced back in June 1972 in the pages of Marvel Spotlight #4, and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where it has appeared canonically in ‘WandaVision’ and as well as the tangential TV series ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and ‘Runaways.’ Before we see the book next on-screen – likely in next year’s ‘Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’ – this Fall, Marvel Comics will feature the dark tome in a series of one-shot special-issue stories, featuring characters from across the pages of the company’s various titles. Written by long-time comics writer Steve Orlando, the tale will start with the self-titled Darkhold Alpha #1 before moving from character to character via their own special issues. Details of the story are being kept mostly under wraps, but Marvel does tell us that both the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom will try (and apparently fail to some degree) to contain the Darkhold from wreaking it’s magical destruction across the Marvel Universe. For anyone who was debating canceling their Disney+ subscription anytime soon, Marvel has thrown down the (Infinity) gauntlet and smoothly said “on your left” with the release of the first full trailer for the forthcoming ‘WandaVision’ series, the first series from Marvel Studios to stream exclusively on their parent company’s online service. Unleashed upon the world during the broadcast of the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, Disney has confirmed via their marketing materials sent to us that the series will premiere sometime before the end of this calendar year. ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’ Teleports Four Months Back For A New 2022 Release Date

‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Magic’ was just delayed a couple of weeks ago, from its original release date of May 7, 2021, to November 5, 2021. Now it has been pushed back even further, to March 25, 2022. On a more positive note, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ has actually been moved up from February 18, 2022, to February 11. The delay for ‘Doctor Strange’ is probably due to the fact that a new director, Sam Raimi, has just announced that he has officially signed on. Raimi replaced Scott Derrickson who helmed the first ‘Doctor Strange’ but quit the sequel due to creative differences, which ironically included studio-mandated release dates. Derrickson had reportedly not begun working on the screenplay before his departure. Jade Bartlett had been announced as screenwriter last October, but it isn’t clear how much work she did. In February, Michael Waldron was said to be taking over writing duties. Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Benedict Wong are returning from the first movie. (Cumberbatch and Wong have appeared in multiple other Marvel movies since.) It was first revealed in February that Sam Raimi was in talks to direct ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and the director has confirmed that he has officially signed on. Raimi previously helped kick-off the modern superhero film stampede by helming ‘Spider-Man’ (2002), ‘Spider-Man 2’ (2004), and ‘Spider-Man 3’ (2007). He planned to direct a fourth film with Tobey Maguire, but that was scuttled when Sony decided to reboot the franchise with director Marc Webb and with Andrew Garfield assuming the role of Peter Parker. Raimi has an affinity for Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme, having slipped an Easter Egg into ‘Spider-Man 2′, in which Ted Raimi’s character suggests “Doctor Strange” as a moniker for the newest villain on the scene, Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina), which J.K. There are RUMORS swirling around that ‘WandaVision’ will introduce the teen superhero Hulkling, also known as Teddy Altman, a member of the Young Avengers. Hulkling is the boyfriend of Wiccan, a.k.a. Billy Kaplan, the son of Scarlet Witch and Vision. In November, another RUMOR emerged that Billy and his long-lost twin brother, Tommy “Speed” Shepherd were also going to appear on the upcoming Disney+ series. That rumor was never confirmed. If Billy isn’t on ‘WandaVision’, then it makes no sense for Teddy to appear. You may think you’ve seen Wanda Maximoff unleashed on the big screen, but you ain’t seen nuthin’ yet, according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. As usual, the details of Marvel projects are kept under wraps, but Feige attended Brazil’s CCXP con and offered a few hints at the upcoming Marvel projects, including the mysterious series ‘WandaVision’ which will star Paul Bettany as The Vision, and Elizabeth Olsen as a character we currently only know as Wanda Maximoff. While most people know that Wanda is also known as the Scarlet Witch in the comics, she has never been referred to by that moniker in the movies, but Feige says that will change. Marvel CCO Kevin Feige appeared at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil over the weekend to share what few details about upcoming Marvel projects he could. One treat was a first look at ‘WandaVision’, the upcoming Disney+ series starring Elizabeth Olsen reprising her role as Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany as The Vision. Everything that has been revealed about ‘WandaVision’ so far makes this sound like a truly unique experience, part old-fashioned sitcom, part Marvel movie, part horror flick. It will heavily influence the upcoming theatrical movie ‘Doctor Strange in the Madness of the Multiverse’. It looks as though we are getting the ‘Young Avengers’ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sooner than we may have expected! We already have a teenage Cassie Lang played by Emma Fuhrmann in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. In the comics, she becomes the size-changing Stature. And we will get Kate Bishop, the new Hawkeye, in the Disney+ show, appropriately named ‘Hawkeye’, hopefully, portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld. Now it sounds as though we might get Wiccan and Speed courtesy of the bizarre ‘WandaVision’! Supervising producer Mary Livanos is featured in the new Disney+ documentary ‘Marvel Studios: Expanding the Universe’, and in one shot, she is seen with a comic book panel of Doctor Strange holding a baby, lifted from the 1985 miniseries ‘The Vision and the Scarlet Witch’, in witch which Wanda used her powers to alter reality to the extent that it allowed her and Vision to not only conceive children (what with him being an android and all) but for her to give birth to twins William and Thomas. It is being reported that Jade Halley Bartlett has been tapped to pen the screenplay to ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’. This news arrives via Collider, but Marvel Studios/Disney had no comment. If her name is not familiar, it’s because she is a relative newcomer. Her screenplay for ‘Miller’s Girl’ is currently in development, with Bartlett planning to direct herself. Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogan are attached to produce. She has also been tapped by Universal to adapt Chloé Esposito’s debut novel ‘Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know’ into a movie, with Michael De Luca producing. She also penned the most recent draft of the screenplay for the horror movie ‘The Turning’ starring Mackenzie Davis and Finn Wolfhard. That picture is scheduled for release on January 24, 2020. The first official promotional poster for Disney+’s ‘WandaVision‘ is out and there is a lot hidden in plain sight. First off, we see both Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany’s Vision appearing to be living as a perfect family in what could easily be thought of as the 1960s. Once you dig a little further into the picture, though, is when things start to get a bit unsettling. First, let’s take a look at the poster so you can see what we mean: As we know, Vision was killed off in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and the Soul Stone was destroyed by Thanos in ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ However, we see Visio sitting here and if you look at his shadow, it would appear that the stone is back as well. Not only that, but Wanda’s shadow appears to have her in a comic book accurate headpiece for her costume. That alone shows that things aren’t quite what they seem and when you throw in the red glow from the television that this loving couple appears to be enjoying and there is another major hint that things are off. We had a chance to see many of The Avengers throw down with Thanos in ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ but Kevin Smith believes that Scarlet Witch is the one who came closest to stopping him, permanently. The famed geek and director thinks that she not only could have stopped The Mad Titan but killed him as well. While we were able to see Captain Marvel throw Thanos around in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and Thor eventually kill him, Wanda was the first to have a solid chance of bringing his plan to an end. Disney+’s upcoming show ‘WandaVision’ is going to be “strange” and “weird,” which may be appropriate as its star, Elizabeth Olsen will go on to co-star in the sequel to ‘Doctor Strange’. But another thing that ‘WandaVision’ may deliver is a codename for Wanda Maximoff (Olsen). In four and a half Marvel movies, Wanda has never once been referred to as “the Scarlet Witch,” but that may change. At Marvel Studio’s star-studded panel at SDCC, Kevin Feige announced, “If you thought the logo was strange, wait until you see the show,” before introducing Olsen and her costar Paul Bettany, who plays The Vision. “It’s going to get weird, we’re going to get deep. Since her first appearance in 1964’s ‘X-Men’ #4, Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch, has been classified as a mutant, someone whose powers are derived from a genetic anomaly. Heck, she first appeared as a member of the Brotherhood of Evil MUTANTS! But in 2015, it was “revealed” that Wanda and her brother Pietro, a.k.a. Quicksilver, were not mutants at all, but had gained their abilities due to the experiments of the High Evolutionary. In reality, this was a political move on the part of Marvel to diminish the importance of the X-Men and mutants in general in the pages of their comics. (I’ll get to deeper into that in a sec.)
