The inclusion of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in the ‘Iron Man’ post-credit scene kicked off the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe and the theme that “it’s all connected.” However, the scene was once much more inclusive and referenced “mutants” and “radioactive bug bites.”
This detail was revealed at last Friday’s Saturn Awards. Kevin Feige was honored with the first Stan Lee World Builder Award and after accepting the award, he revealed this particular post-credits scene:

No one knew that Sony Pictures would temporarily give Marvel Studios the rights to include Spider-Man in what would become the Marvel Cinematic Universe or that Walt Disney would make it successful enough to warrant buying out 20th Century Fox. Since no one could guess this back then, it didn’t seem likely to anyone that one day that this scene could feel like canon!
About the deleted scene, Feige shared:
“We pulled some things out of that vault that we said, ‘We’ll never show this to anybody, put it away. We’re bringing them out, we’re putting them on this disc, and I’m about to show you a deleted scene that has never been seen by anyone before right now.”
Unsurprisingly, this shows that Marvel Studios always wanted to have these characters to play with on the big screen. Thankfully Feige has proven to have the acumen to deliver a robust set of films which not only is loved by comic fans but the entire world.
