Scarlet Witch Unleashes The Magic Of The Darkhold On The Marvel Universe

The Darkhold has a long and storied history in the Marvel Universe – both in the comics, where it was first introduced back in June 1972 in the pages of Marvel Spotlight #4, and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where it has appeared canonically in ‘WandaVision’ and as well as the tangential TV series ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and ‘Runaways.’ Before we see the book next on-screen – likely in next year’s ‘Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’ – this Fall, Marvel Comics will feature the dark tome in a series of one-shot special-issue stories, featuring characters from across the pages of the company’s various titles. Written by long-time comics writer Steve Orlando, the tale will start with the self-titled Darkhold Alpha #1 before moving from character to character via their own special issues. Details of the story are being kept mostly under wraps, but Marvel does tell us that both the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom will try (and apparently fail to some degree) to contain the Darkhold from wreaking it’s magical destruction across the Marvel Universe. “The Phone Hasn’t Rung” For Noah Hawley’s ‘Doctor Doom’

For years we’ve been hearing about Noah Hawley’s ‘Doctor Doom’ project that was headed to Fox. Once Disney bought the studio and regained rights to all of the Marvel characters, they all ended up under the creative control of Marvel Studios. When it first happened, Hawley seemed hopeful that his take on Victor Von Doom would still find its way to the big screen. However, as time has passed, the director has revealed to Deadline that “the phone hasn’t rung” from Marvel Studios on showing any interest in developing the film. That isn’t to say that the Hawley isn’t still interested in creating the film if they were to call: “I love the script and what I did with it. Marvel seems to have a plan for everything, it would be great if I fell into that plan. And I haven’t been chasing it, and with Star Trek, it complicates it. Thanksgiving Throwback: Check Out The ‘Masters Of The Universe’/’Princess Of Power’ And Marvel Floats In The Macy’s Parade

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is an annual tradition for thousands who tune in to see the famous character balloons, colorful floats, and celebrities. The parade often incorporates whatever is hot in pop culture each year and back in the 1980s, fans were thrilled by floats featuring the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe/She-Ra: Princess of Power and the Marvel Superheroes. First, in 1985, an elaborate float was created by Mattel to promote its popular ‘Masters of the Universe’ and ‘Princess of Power’ toy lines. The front of the float was a recreation of Castle Grayskull, while the rear was the Crystal Castle. A giant serpent towered in between. Below you can find concept art for the float: This was one of the most technically advanced floats to ever appear in the Macy’s parade. Riding on the float were He-Man and She-Ra, their allies Angella, Buzz-Off, Castaspella, Frosta, Glimmer, Man-at-Arms, Moss Man, Orko, and Teela, and villains like Hordak, Skeletor, Beast Man, Catra, and Grizzlor. Noah Hawley Doesn’t Sound Hopeful About His ‘Doctor Doom’ Movie

Prior to Fox being bought out by Disney we know that Noah Hawley was working on a script for a ‘Doctor Doom‘ movie. A few months back the director shared that they were “still talking about making” his film which sounded positive, though the writer’s latest comments don’t sound too hopeful that it will see the light of day. Hawley shared a new piece of information about the film where he spoke to Kevin Feige about it: “Yeah, I mean, it combined genres. And it’s sort of a Cold War parallel film. And I really like it. I’ve been too busy to really lean on them, and they certainly haven’t called me on the phone. With the Disney buyout of Fox and all of its comic book properties returning to Marvel Studios, you would think that Noah Hawley’s (‘Legion‘) idea for a ‘Doctor Doom’ movie would be dead in the water. While it does seem that ‘Gambit‘ isn’t going to happen and the various “X-Men” properties outside of ‘Deadpool’ are getting a reboot, there seems to be a chance that this ‘Doctor Doom’ story might still be told. Everyone assumed that any outstanding, unproduced Marvel film projects at 20th Century Fox would simply be scrapped, once Disney finalized its buyout. But there is a glimmer of hope for Noah Hawley‘s ‘Doctor Doom’ movie, which was originally announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2017. Reportedly, the creator of FX’s ‘Legion’ completed a script last June, but with the merger looming, didn’t feel optimistic that the movie would actually get made. In fact, Fox had until this month to start filming anything if it wanted it to actually get made before Disney began calling all the shots, and… well, they didn’t do that. Fox’s licenses to the ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ franchises will now shift over to Disney subsidiary Marvel Studios and its president Kevin Feige. But it sounds as though Feige is interested to see what was in store before determining their future. In fact, Hawley stated that he had met with Feige to discuss ‘Doctor Doom’, as he revealed to The Hollywood Reporter while attending SXSW. Reportedly ‘X-Force’, ‘Gambit’, ‘Doctor Doom’ And Other Fox Marvel Projects Are Officially Dead

In what should come in no way as a surprise, any planned but unmade Marvel movies that 20th Century Fox had in the pipeline are rumored to be officially dead. That includes the ever in development ‘Gambit’, which has been in the works since 2014, with Channing Tatum attached to star. The film has gone through a slew of directors and scripts but never seemed too close to actually coming to fruiting. Now it doesn’t look like it ever will. The other, perhaps more shocking cancellation is ‘X-Force’ a film that ‘Deadpool 2′ seemed to exist simply to set-up. Other scrapped projects include oddities like ”Doctor Doom’, ‘Kitty Pryde’, and ‘Silver Surfer’ which were announced after the Disney buyout of Fox was in the works, so it begs the question what were they even thinking? There was no way that these would get made before Disney assumed control, so any writing or pre-production work was just money wasted. Noah Hawley Has Finished A ‘Doctor Doom’ Script But Isn’t Sure If It’ll Get Made

Noah Hawley has been able to finish a draft of the script for ‘Doctor Doom‘ but the writer and director is unsure if Fox will make the movie. While the studio is enjoying what he has put together, the timeline might not work in its favor. Assuming the Disney buyout of Fox goes through, ‘Doctor Doom’ would be on the cusp of going into production and at this time it isn’t clear if this “political thriller” is something that Fox can get onto the big screen before the buyout. If it can’t, no one has a clue if Marvel Studios would even want it to happen if they have plans for the ruler of Latveria and by extension the ‘Fantastic Four’ of their own. As to the status of the screenplay, Hawley has shared that “I wrote a script that I really like and the studio really likes” but he was quick to add that “It needs a little work.” The problem though is twofold. What Kind Of Film Will The ‘Doctor Doom’ Movie Be? Think ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

Even though Fox might soon be owned by Marvel Studios, the company still has to remain profitable and keep their IP’s going so as to not prematurely lose the rights and that is why we’re going to get a ‘Doctor Doom‘ movie. Let’s ignore the fact that without a workable ‘Fantastic Four‘ he’ll feel as if he’s missing a vital aspect to his character. Let’s also forget that the studio has yet to give us the kind of villain who would be able to single-handedly go toe to toe with The Avengers and just remember that he’s one of the best villains Marvel has created. A solo movie might even be able to make us forget how terrible the ‘Fantastic Four’ movies have been so far. As to a villain who could fit well into the realm of the MCU? Ever since the rumors (and now the fact) of the pending merger between Disney and 21st Century Fox entered the public consciousness back in November, fans and commentators alike have been trying to parse what this all means for the myriad franchises that Fox either owns outright or to which they currently hold the rights. Certainly, a lot of ink has been devoted over the last two months to the prospect of the Fantastic Four returning to Marvel and the presumed fate of the ‘X-Men’ films. But what sometimes gets lost in those conversations is the implications of the merger for specific projects. Case in point, it was announced over the summer that ‘Fargo’ and ‘Legion’ showrunner Noah Hawley was in the process of developing a Doctor Doom movie for Fox. Now, we should note that this is a character that Fox has twice tried and failed to translate to the screen (to say nothing of their wildly uneven handling of ‘Fantastic Four’ films generally). It’s finally happened. Disney bought most Fox properties which means that Marvel Studios can add The Fantastic Four and the X-Men to their cinematic universe opening up countless new story possibilities. Let’s get into some low-hanging fruit. The Rise Of The Illuminati Marvel Comics feature a small council of heroes from different teams called the Illuminati. The group originally featured Iron Man, Mister Fantastic, Doctor Strange, Professor X, Black Bolt, and Namor. All except Namor are now available to Marvel Studios, even if they opt to keep Black Bolt of Inhumans fame isolated to TV. Bringing the Illuminati to film would link franchises together in a way that doesn’t interfere with their autonomy while preparing for the next big crossover. If this happens, expect great dialogue from the universes most intelligent and scheming players with exciting and perhaps ominous results. Black Panther & Storm Forever What better way to cross pollinate franchise fandom than with a linking romance? Every year, San Diego Comic Con (aka Comic-Con International) always has a slew of huge announcements and crazy surprises. Big reveals, crossovers, and casting announcements are all the rage, and all the different comic-book houses, TV networks, and film production companies want direly to get in on the action. It comes as no major surprise, then, that ‘Legion,’ the FX televised series about the “other” mutants in the ‘X-Men’ universe, had a fun panel on Thursday of the convention. What was the shocker, however, was what series showrunner Noah Crowley told the crowd (per reports), in no uncertain terms, what his next project will be: “I’m developing a film for Fox and I’ll just say two words. Doctor. Doom.” Intriguing that this would be the direction that 20th Century Fox, the rights-holders to the cinematic Fantastic Four realm of the Marvel Comics, is choosing to take the FF film franchise. The role of a villain in a comic book is simple, to escalate the stakes for the hero, to bring out their heroic side, to give them something to fight against, to make the story exciting. And oftentimes, the more vile, evil, and despicable the villain, the more we root for the hero, and cheer when they bring down the big bad. But what if the villain is not actually that bad of a person? In recent years, comics, TV show and movies have been toying with the idea of three-dimensional villains, who have surprising depth and motivation for their more heinous actions, making them more relatable and making audiences wonder if they might act similarly if they found themselves in the same situation.
