Scarlet Witch Unleashes The Magic Of The Darkhold On The Marvel Universe

The Darkhold has a long and storied history in the Marvel Universe – both in the comics, where it was first introduced back in June 1972 in the pages of Marvel Spotlight #4, and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where it has appeared canonically in ‘WandaVision’ and as well as the tangential TV series ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and ‘Runaways.’ Before we see the book next on-screen – likely in next year’s ‘Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’ – this Fall, Marvel Comics will feature the dark tome in a series of one-shot special-issue stories, featuring characters from across the pages of the company’s various titles. Written by long-time comics writer Steve Orlando, the tale will start with the self-titled Darkhold Alpha #1 before moving from character to character via their own special issues. Details of the story are being kept mostly under wraps, but Marvel does tell us that both the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom will try (and apparently fail to some degree) to contain the Darkhold from wreaking it’s magical destruction across the Marvel Universe. RUMOR MILL: Marvel Studios Is Looking To Cast ‘Werewolf By Night’

The latest buzz is that Marvel Studios is looking to cast Jack Russell, a character also known as “Werewolf by Night” or as simply “The Werewolf.” This rumor, reported by Geeks Worldwide, is very vague. It isn’t specified in which project the character will appear or even whether it is a Disney+ TV show or a movie. But one very likely candidate is the ‘Moon Knight’ Disney+ series that was announced this weekend at the D23 Expo, seeing as how the character Moon Knight first appeared in the pages of 1975’s ‘Werewolf by Night’ #32. Russell also crossed paths with Blade, who is getting a movie, with Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali playing the Vampire Slayer, so that is another possibility. ‘Werewolf by Night’ himself first appeared in 1972’s ‘Marvel Spotlight’ #2, before landing his own series which ran for 43 issues, until 1977. Both have been made for over 80 years now, so it’s no surprise when a popular comic book is adapted into feature-film form (and on occasion, vice versa). We’re currently living through what is easily the high point of cinematic comic adaptations (at least in terms of sheer volume), and superheroes are all over the big screen – but comic books contain so much more than spandex-clad do-gooders! In fact, there’s been a crap-ton (very scientific term there) of movies to hit the theaters that you probably never even realized were based on comics. This list is by no means all-inclusive, but I’ve rounded up 15 of the biggest and most intriguing movies that you might not have known started out in art-book form. Sorry, Jordan Peele Doesn’t Want To Direct ‘Blade’ (Or Any Other Adaptations)

Sorry folks, but even though the ‘Blade’ reboot (starring Mahershala Ali) was just announced this weekend, one director has already declared that he is not interested in tackling the project — Jordan Peele. Peele told Rolling Stone: “So many of those properties — it’s a childhood dream to be able to essentially see what you saw in your imagination as a child, watching or reading or whatever you were doing with that stuff. It’s a filmmaker’s dream. But you know, I feel like I only have so much time. I have a lot of stories to tell, and it just doesn’t feel right. It just doesn’t feel right… I’m a comic book and graphic novel appreciator, but I can’t call myself a true fan boy.” Peele has had two successful horror films, ‘Get Out’ and ‘Us’, both of which were low-budget affairs and mixed social commentary with chills. He hasn’t directed anything along the lines of a big-budget action movie, and even though Blade is half-vampire, this is surely going to be more of an action flick than a true horror film. Wesley Snipes Pens A Letter To Fans After Mahershala Ali Is Announced As The New ‘Blade’

Over the weekend, Marvel Studios announced a slew of new information about its upcoming films and TV series, but one of the most jaw-dropping announcements was that two-time Academy Award-winner Mahershala Ali was going to play the lead in a reboot of ‘Blade’. Of course, Wesley Snipes solidified his superstar status back in the ’90s and early ’00s starring in three ‘Blade’ movies, distributed by New Line Cinema, and the actor has continued to tease a potential return to the role in recent years. The announcement of a new ‘Blade’ movie, not connected to Snipes’, with a different actor would seem to indicate that any hopes that Snipes would return in the role had been dashed. Unfortunately, it sounds as though Snipes learned of Ali’s casting the same time as the rest of us. But to his credit, he is taking the news in stride. SDCC 2019: Kevin Feige Announced ALL Of Marvel Phase Four; ‘Blade’ Is Part Of Phase Five

While the SDCC announcement that Mahershala Ali will be starring in a new Marvel Studios movie, ‘Blade’, was huge, don’t get overly excited. ‘Blade’ is along way off. In fact, Kevin Feige clarified that the majority of what was revealed was Marvel’s Phase Four and that ‘Blade’ will actually be part of Phase Five. For the time being, this is the upcoming Phase Four release schedule. Please note, about half are TV shows coming to the Disney+ streaming service. ‘What If?’ is an animated series, so something tells me it doesn’t really tie that firmly to the movies’ continuity. But it seems as though the live-action shows will actually have an impact on the films. Two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali took the stage at Marvel’s presentation in Hall H during San Diego Comic-Con, and put on a Blade baseball cap causing the audience to burst into loud cheers. Yes, Marvel Studios is introducing their version of Blade and Ali is playing him. Blade, the half-vampire vampire slayer, was actually the second character from the publisher to star in his own cinematic film, following ‘Howard the Duck’ in the ’80s. (Well, in between, a couple of other movies got made, but never released.) Wesley Snipes starred as Blade in three movies, in 1998 (one year before the first ‘X-Men’), 2002, and 2004. The films made over $204 million and kicked off the modern era of comic book cinema. Sticky Fingaz portrayed Blade in the one-season TV series that aired on TNT from 2006-07. The comic book character was created by Marv Wolfman and premiered in 1973’s ‘Tomb of Dracula’ #10. In an interesting move, it appears this film came to be because Ali wanted to make it! Could ‘Blade’ Be Daywalking Into His Own Show On Hulu?

One character that many fans seem to most want to see returned to the big screen is Blade, a character immortalized by Wesley Snipes in a trio of theatrical movies from the late 1990s-early 2000s. Many cite the first ‘Blade’, released in 1998, as the kick-off to the current multiverse of huge superhero movies. But while it sounds as though Blade may be returning, the latest rumor is that it won’t be on the big screen. MCU Cosmic reports that a ‘Blade’ TV series may be headed to Hulu. Spike aired one season of a ‘Blade’ TV series in 2006-07, based on the films, but with Sticky Fingaz replacing Snipes. Just yesterday, it was revealed that Elizabeth Hurley had been cast as the ancient sorceress Morgan Le Fay on Hulu’s ‘Runaways’. I personally don’t recall this character ever popping up in the ‘Runaways’ comic book, but it’s been a long time since I read them. But this could be an attempt to bring a darker, mystical tone to the series in order to make it a better fit for upcoming shows. Steve Lightfoot Wants To Punish Vampires By Giving Us A New Take On ‘Blade’

While Netflix has another hit on their hands with ‘The Punisher‘, showrunner Steve Lightfoot knows that the streaming giant is likely to cancel the series in the near future and has his eyes set on another Marvel property to develop – Blade. While there is always a chance we could see the Netflix shows head over to Disney+ or another network if Walt Disney Studios is willing to shell out enough money, chances are each of these properties will be off the air for at least two years before Marvel can reboot them elsewhere. With that in mind, Lightfoot wants to bring another antihero to life in the most infamous vampire hunter which Marvel has ever created. Will Blade Be Taking A Bite Out Of The MCU? Wesley Snipes Teases 2 Marvel Projects!

We’ve known for years that Wesley Snipes would love to reprise his role as the vampire hunter Blade and now that might be happening. The actor has long wanted his character to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that is something which could be on the horizon. It isn’t clear if there is a movie, animated feature, or television series in the works, but Snipes has teased that there could be not one, but two projects that he is involved with related to Marvel. He doesn’t explicitly reference which area of Marvel he is talking to either, but it sounds like we might see this half breed vampire slayer finding some way to return to the screen. Wesley Snipes kicked off the modern superhero movie movement after the dismal reaction to ‘Batman & Robin’ in 1997. Snipes’ ‘Blade’ brought a dark, violent, adult sensibility that opened the door for 2000’s ‘X-Men’ and things have only snowballed from there, with the massive success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy which earned Heath Ledger a posthumous Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, last year’s milestone ‘Wonder Woman’, which succeeded partially by truly speaking to women, and ‘Logan’ the first superhero movie to ever be nominated for an Academy Award in a writing category. But before ‘Blade’, did you know that Snipes got very close to bringing another Marvel champion to the big screen? It’s true. Before the dawn of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the company saw success in two of three ‘Blade’ movies with Wesley Snipes as the pivotal character. Rumors continue to surface that this half human, half vampire hybrid could make a reappearance in either a film or more likely television but it hasn’t seemed to really go anywhere. While Blade could fit into some of the televised arcs, he would seem a bit off from the currently planned line of films that the MCU has been putting out. That hasn’t stopped fans from wondering who could play The Daywalker if he returned, and one of those is Wesley Snipes himself. With all the hubbub surrounding the Marvel Cinematic Universe right now, it’s easy to forget that Marvel does have control of a few other properties that have been given their own films in recent years but are currently unattached to the larger MCU activity. ‘Big Hero 6‘ springs to mind for me personally, and for many other people, another hero comes to the forefront for them: the vampire hunter, Blade. While the first trio of ‘Blade’ films were not under direct Marvel control, the rights to the character came back to the company a few years ago, around the same time that they also managed to bring The Punisher and Ghost Rider back into the cinematic fold. As we’ve seen the other two characters feature in the small-screen version of the MCU, perhaps Blade will have the opportunity to as well?
