I’m going to be including the big spoiler/reveal from the last episode of Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ so if you aren’t caught up on the show then you’ll be wanting to turn back now.
Okay, here we go! With Grant Ward having been killed and seemingly reanimated by a horrible alien presence in the last episode of Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ it was no surprise that he was about to turn into a powered super villain. While which one was still up for debate, hints had been popping up as to who he might be. In the televised universe (hard to tell if this is still part of the MCU at this point) we know that Hydra has always worshipped an alien God and now it has come to Earth in the form of Coulson’s worst enemy. As the current storyline has S.H.I.E.L.D. creating the Secret Warriors, it should be no surprise that their major villain is who Ward is turning into.
Confirmation has just dropped from producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen that the new Ward is, in fact, Hive. Fans of the comic might think they know what to expect but the Ward version “is going to have its own unique twist and be very different from what fans have seen so far” and while there will be differences there will also be “similarities that pay homage to the original character.”
We know that either Hive retains portions of its hosts personality or their memories as when it was on Maveth wearing Will’s body, it was able to make everyone think that he was still the lost pilot. How much of this is the memory that is being accessed compared to the actual personality that is still fighting for control remains to be seen. If any of Ward remains, I suspect they’ll use his emotional ties to Daisy to eventually be Hive’s downfall around the season finale.
Are you looking forward to Hive making a small screen appearance? What other villains do you hope are introduced this season? Share your thoughts below!
Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ will return to ABC on Tuesday, March 8th, 2016 at 9 pm.
