Before the production on the pilot begins next month, Deadline is reporting that Syfy’s new drama series ‘Defiance’ has added two more names to the cast: Mia Kirshner and Fionnula Flanagan. Kirshner is best known for her roles in ‘The L Word’ and ‘24’, while Flanagan appeared in many moves and television series, including various ‘Star Trek’ shows, ‘The Others’, and ‘Lost’.
The two actresses will join the cast that already features Grant Bowler (‘True Blood’), Julie Benz (‘Dexter’), Tony Curran (‘Doctor Who’), Graham Greene (‘Twilight’), and more. Kirshner will play Kenya, “the self-assured, dauntless town madam whose unvarying devotion to the town of Defiance has inexorably woven her into many of its complicated affairs”. Flanagan will portray Nicky, “the popular ex-mayor of the town whose intrinsic expertise from her years on the job have made her a trusted mentor to her successor, Amanda (Benz)”.
Written/executive produced by Rockne S. O’Bannon, Kevin Murphy, and Michael Tayolr, ‘Defiance’ centers on Jeb Nolan (Bowler), the local law man in the frontier town known as Defiance on an Earth that has been ravaged by decades of war and alien terra-forming.
The show will also include a MMO game that coexists with the universe of the television program. Events of the game will affect the show and vice versa. Actions online and avatars of players would be referenced in the show. And characters on the show would appear in the game to give you missions and quests that would be integral parts of the next episode.
Syfy and game maker Trion have certainly put together an interesting concept to enhance the television viewing experience. Will you be tuning in and become one of the inhabitants of Defiance?
