AMC had great news for fans during its ‘NOS4A2’ panel at SDCC on Saturday– the show has been renewed for a second season. Like the first, Season Two will consist of ten episodes. Production begins this fall and the new episodes will arrive next fall. The series is based on Joe Hill‘s novel of the same name. Zachary Quinto stars as the vampire-like Charlie Manx who feeds on the souls of children, then discards what’s left of them in the otherworldly Christmasland, where it is always December 25, and “happiness is mandatory.” Ashleigh Cummings stars as Vic McQueen, who discovers that she is psychically linked to Manz and is able to track his movements. ‘NOS4A2’ also stars Olafur Darri Olafsson, Jahkara J. Smith, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Chris McQueen, and Virginia Kull.
AMC president David Madden announced:
“This otherworldy series makes remarkable work of Joe Hill’s spine-tingling novel, deftly helmed by Jami O’Brien and with captivating performances by Zachary Quinto and Ashleigh Cummings and the rest of the talented cast. NOS4A2 has kept viewers on the edge of their seats since its debut, and we are ready to jump right back into this story for season two.”
‘NOS4A2’s showrunner and executive producer Jami O’Brien declared:
“I am so excited for the opportunity to bring the rest of Joe Hill’s amazing novel to television. Joe’s imagination is unparalleled. I love the characters and the world, and our colleagues at AMC have been wonderful partners. I’m grateful to be playing in the NOS4A2 sandbox.”
So it sounds as though Season One will adapt the first half of Hill’s novel and Season Two will enable the creators to finish it. In fact, earlier this year, Hill said:
“(Season 1 is) a little less than the first half. When Jami read the book, she sort of correctly saw that there was a breakpoint where the story shifts into a different gear. Her feeling was, really, in some ways, NOS4A2 is two or maybe three stories that could be full seasons. She found one of these breakpoints and so yeah, season one is a totally self-contained, totally satisfying story. But it is not the full book.”
The series ranks in the Top 20 of drama shows on cable.
