Amazon potentially just hit a gold mine, as they picked up a new series from Ron Moore and Bryan Cranston with a lot of sci-fi cred behind it, as the new anthology series is based on a number of short stories by renowned author Philip K. Dick. Dick, as many know, is the visionary whose stories inspired such cult classics as ‘Blade Runner,’ ‘Total Recall,’ Minority Report,’ ‘The Adjustment Bureau,’ and ‘A Scanner Darkly.’ The new series, which so far has a ten episode count, will be titled ‘Philip K Dick’s Electric Dreams,’ and hopefully, will delve into the best of Dick’s work and bring it to life in each episode.
Of course everyone know’s Cranston for his work on both ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ and the phenomenal ‘Breaking Bad,’ so his involvement as an executive producer brings with it a whole lot of experience with successful television shows, not to mention some great movies, after the man has been in films like ‘Argo’ and ‘Trumbo.’ As for his sci-fi cred, he did star in ‘Godzilla‘ and put in his time in ‘Power Rangers’ back in the 90s (not to mention his role as Zordon in the new remake), so Cranston clearly has the flexibility to be successful at whatever he puts his mind toward.
As for Ron Moore, the man has been prolific in the science-fiction television realm for years, starting with writing for ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation,’ then writing for ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,’ and producing episodes of ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ before heading out to produce and write for teen drama/ sci-fi show ‘Roswell’ over on the newly minted WB Network. Following that, he developed the well-loved series ‘Battlestar Galactica‘ and its sequel series ‘Caprica,’ and nowadays is an executive producer on ‘Outlander.’
So with Dick, Moore, and Cranston all behind the show, it definitely has some real potential to be something incredible, especially if Amazon has enough faith to let it grow and become whatever it needs to be.
