Netflix has become to go-to destination for Marvel superheroes on the small screen. Now there is a rumor of a new hero joining the ranks of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist: Moon Knight!
The word of a Moon Knight series in development came from Heroic Hollywood’s El Mayimbe during a guest spot on Collider Heroes. The character would fit in nicely with the other heroes featured on Netflix, all having a similar power level and tendency for violence. Like Daredevil, he has a boxing background and, like Iron Fist, he has mystical roots. Before taking on the identity of Moon Knight, Marc Spector came back from death (or near death) by intervention from the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. Now he has heightened strength and abilities tied to the phases of the moon. There are direct possibilities of crossover with the mystical elements already introduced in ‘Daredevil’ like Madame Gao and the allusion to the Shadowland, a storyline from the comics that included both heroes.
Moon Knight is sometimes considered Marvel’s version of Batman. He is in peak physical condition and skilled in various forms of hand-to-hand combat. Google ‘Moon Knight’ and you’ll find him standing in darkness and taking on very Batman-like postures. This may benefit the show considering the only Batman presence on TV only teases audiences by presenting a pre-Batman Bruce Wayne on ‘Gotham’.
This should be taken with a grain or salt for now, but if Netflix sees the same success with their upcoming Marvel series as they did with ‘Daredevil’ season 1, this seems like a smart move. I’m sure the studios want to keep their options open. Moon Knight could make an appearance even if the character doesn’t get his own series. Electra and the Punisher are already in the next season of Daredevil, after all.
