The final season of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones‘ is coming and one thing will be vastly different from previous seasons. Maisie Williams’s Arya Stark is going to be involved in the epic fight which took 11 weeks of night shoots to be able to accomplish. A year before the episode was to film, Miguel Sapochnik (who directed what will likely be one of the most iconic scenes ever to grace the small screen) told her to “start training now because this is going to be really hard.”
The actress apparently laughed this as she “said, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah. But nothing can prepare you for how physically draining it is. It’s night after night, and again and again, and it just doesn’t stop. You can’t get sick, and you have to look out for yourself because there’s so much to do that nobody else can do… there are moments you’re just broken as a human and just want to cry.”
Working all night in cold weather with hundreds of other actors trying to pull off scene after scene for nearly three months could take its toll on just about anyone. Even so, Williams was thrilled that Arya would be able to be included here:
“I skip the battle every year, which is bizarre since Arya’s the one who’s been training the most. This is my first taste of it. And I’ve been thrown in at the deep end.”
While Arya might have been turned into a master assassin, fighter, and killing machine, it should be interesting to see how she deals with an all-out war compared to working in secret. I’m excited to see how Arya will not only survive this battle but grow from it! Honestly, I’m hoping to see her and Jon Sno wielding their weapons side by side in at least one scene.
