After the critical success of ‘Jessica Jones‘ last month, Marvel fans are eagerly anticipating the continued adventures of Marvel’s heroes on Netflix, starting with the next series in line, ‘Luke Cage,’ which is rumored to premiere sometime in April of 2016. Star Mike Colter was on hand recently to speak about his new show, especially to how the continuing adventures of Luke will be fundamentally different than what we saw in ‘Daredevil’ and ‘Jessica Jones.’
“Jessica’s storyline is so different from Daredevil’s storyline. Daredevil’s storyline is so different from mine. There’s a social aspect involved with Luke Cage, there is a criminal element involved, and there is a procedural element involvement. We focus on a variety of different things. I think it will be a surprise. I don’t know if we’ll be taking things to the next level because Jessica did such a great job. I don’t know what to expect, as far as the response, but I know it’s going to be different.”
From what we have heard so far, that Luke Cage will involve the hero standing up for his community against a criminal element in Harlem, it already sounds like it will be different, even if it does have some elements from Marvel’s first two Netflix series. While both Matt Murdock and Luke Cage battle a criminal element, Cage can be much more open about it, as his powers allow him to kick ass and be invulnerable in the light of day, while Daredevil always had to strike from the shadows. And while Jessica and Luke maybe have enjoyed each other’s company, Luke at the end of the day seems to be a much more likable character than Jessica, at least to the characters in Hell’s Kitchen, and he might be more embraced by those around him than Jessica ever was. And while both Jessica and Murdock more or less kept their powers quiet, with Murdock having the secret identity of Daredevil, Luke (in the comics at least) is much more open with what he can do, fighting crime in broad daylight.
No matter what, at this point with Netflix and Marvel’s track record, I am pretty sure we are in for another amazing show, and I cannot wait to see what they manage to do with the character, especially after his amazing introduction in ‘Jessica Jones.’
