At the conclusion of the last season of ‘American Horror Story,’ series creator and creative mind Ryan Murphy was asked about the “theme” for next season; with ‘AHS’ being an anthology series wherein every season has a different setting, characters, and story arc, it’s a legitimate thing for the masses to want to know. Murphy didn’t disappoint, telling us that next season will, at least in part, be focused on the results of the 2016 American Presidential Election.
In a recent interview with E News, Murphy elaborated a bit on what we can expect to see as the series opens. When asked if he was casting Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump, the two primary competitors in the election, Murphy said:
We don’t have actors playing them. You’ll see them on television. The first 10 minutes of the season, this season, takes place in a very eerie macabre way on election night and there’s something terrible that happens in the lives of our characters on election night as they’re watching it all go down. Which in itself was a horror story, so it’s like a horror story upon a horror story.
From this, it’s a little hard to gauge whether the entire season will revolve around the Presidential Election, or if the event simply sets the stage for the over-arching story that will be told.
In a separate interview on the TV show ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,’ Murphy elaborated on the overall progress of the next season:
“I don’t have a title, but the season we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through. So I think that will be interesting for a lot of people.”
The seventh season of ‘American Horror Story’ will likely debut this fall on the FX Network.
