JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is one of the most well-known Japanese manga series of all time. Since its inception in 1987 as as serialized story in Japan’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine, the series has grown to an impressive array of adaptations that include video games, spin-off mangas, light novels, several animated TV series, and even a live-action film. Netflix has revealed that the newest iteration of the series, ‘Stone Ocean,’ will be premiering globally on the streaming service this coming December. If you aren’t a fan of the anime or manga, then there are probably a lot of questions about the world which ‘Alita: Battle Angel‘ takes place in and the latest international trailer tries to help with that. At least, they try to explain a bit of Alita’s origin for the upcoming movie and tease more of exactly how important she will be to the world. The last clip, “Ambush Alle,” showed off Alita’s impressive fighting skills and this 2-minute trailer shows how Alita came to be. The latest trailer for ‘Alita: Battle Angel‘ has had a side-by-side comparison to the original and it would appear that the eyes everyone has been talking about have gotten a makeover. The look of the central character has been more humanized, and while her eyes are still a bit larger, their closer to what you’d expect to see and her flesh tone has changed as well. You can see the change in the look below. The Third And Final Trailer Is Out For ‘Alita: Battle Angel’

While the big-eyed visuals might take some getting used to, the third and final trailer for ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ looks absolutely spectacular. The initial announcement of James Cameron moving from director to just the producer of the film had me worried, but it looks like Robert Rodriguez might be delivering a live-action take of the anime and manga that will be a fun watch for everyone who enjoyed the original works. This new trailer delivers more on both what the film will look like as well as gives a better understanding of the plot. You can check out the trailer right here! Outside of the fantastic fight sequences, we’re also getting our first look at Jennifer Connolly and Jackie Earle Haley in the film though it isn’t clear how important their supporting characters will be quite yet. Much like video game adaptations, Hollywood would love to find a live-action take on a manga or anime that will resonate with Western audiences and the next take on the idea will be ‘My Hero Academia.’ While we’re all hoping that ‘Alita: Battle Angel‘ could pave the way that both ‘Ghost in the Shell‘ and ‘Death Note‘ wasn’t able to do, we’re already seeing Legendary Pictures looking to give us a new take on this iconic manga series. For those unfamiliar with the manga, many aspects feel to be taken directly out of the pages of other properties. The world has 80 percent of the population suddenly developing powers which are called quirks. This has created a slew of heroes and villains in the world, and we’re put in the shoes of one boy who is stuck as ordinary but is obsessed with those who have powers. The trailer for ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ has dropped and one thing that absolutely stands out is Alita’s eyes and now director Robert Rodriguez is opening up a bit about them. While the source material can either be considered the original manga or the anime film that was based on it, none of the rest of the humans have these eyes in the movie. Apparently, it was also James Cameron’s idea to have a live version of these eyes but they look even more out of place with only one character having them. According to Rodriguez: “It was always Jim’s intention to create a photo-realistic version of the manga eyes that we’re so accustomed to seeing. We really wanted to honour that tradition and see that look standing next to any human character. To have the right person to emote behind it was really essential. I grew up watching anime and ‘Battle Angel Alita’ was one of my favorites as a kid so I’ve been pretty excited to see what director Robert Rodriguez was going to do with ‘Alita: Battle Angel‘. The new trailer shows that James Cameron picked the right director for the film as it hits all the right notes. The one thing you might not be able to take your eyes off of though is Alita’s eyes which are very anime in style. It isn’t clear yet if this is a cyborg standard or just something that is in place for the leading lady. You can check out the trailer right here! Any translation from manga or anime to live-action will have differences and director Adam Wingard (‘Blair Witch’,’The Guest’) is sharing how ‘Death Note‘ has changed from the source material and why. Honestly, his reasons all make perfect sense, and you can tell it was something he struggled with. Not only that, but it seems like these variations from the source material had to have come right at the start of production with the themes that he brings up. See You Space Cowboy… As ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Gets A Live-Action Television Series

I have totally mixed emotions about this but the fantastically musically charged space adventure anime series ‘Cowboy Bebop’ is getting a live-action television show. I absolutely loved this series and the soundtrack and have no idea how they could successfully capture the spirit of the show with actors, but if they’re able to, I’ll be tuning in every week. Marty Adelstein’s Tomorrow studio has partnered with Midnight Radio to produce the series with Sunrise giving full permission for their anime to get a live-action take. According to Adelstein: “The animated version has long resonated with audiences worldwide. With the continued, ever growing, popularity of anime, we believe a live action version will have an incredible impact today.” The original series had a 26-episode run and showed us that the Earth had become uninhabitable, so humanity had fled to their colonized worlds and space stations. Jordan Peele Gives The Best Reason As To Why He Won’t Be Directing ‘Akira’

Jordan Peele has become my new directing hero with his reasoning behind not directing the live-action adaptation of ‘Akira‘. He recently made his mark with ‘Get Out‘ and will have his pick of Hollywood blockbusters if he plays his cards right so ‘Akira’ could have been a perfect fit. The problem is, he isn’t interested. Warner Brothers needed a director that can capture the humanity and horror in a film which Peele has clearly proven he can do, but they’ll have to continue their hunt. So why did Peele pass? “I think [I could do it] if the story justifies it,” Peele said. “AKIRA is one of my favorite movies, and I think obviously the story justifies as a budget as you can possibly dream of. But the real question for me is: Do I want to do pre-existing material, or do I want to do original content? Two Directors Are Being Looked At To Direct The Live-Action ‘Akira’ Movie

The live-action ‘Akira‘ movie has been in pre-development for years and now two directors are being eyed to tackle the film. Likely, we won’t see too much movement on this until ‘Ghost in the Shell’ is released on the big screen as if it flops the plans for this might be scrubbed, but for now it seems like a new take on this classic story is going to happen. ‘Akira’ is often cited as the biggest push of what brought anime into the mainstream conscious of America and was the first film that truly was able to whet the Western appetite for all things Anime and Manga. With things looking good in the pre-production department it would appear that both David F. Sandberg (‘Lights Out’) and Daniel Espinosa (‘Life‘,’Safe House’) are being eyed to adapt this story. Warner Brothers are also courting these two for Sandberg to work on ‘Shazam’ and Espinosa to tackle another DC film with ‘Suicide Squad 2’ being the likely candidate. Finally A Shot Of The Elric Brothers From The Live-Action ‘Fullmetal Alchemist’ Film

Even though a teaser was previously released for the live-action ‘Fullmetal Alchemist’, they haven’t really given us a good shot of any of the characters in the film. While the Elric Brothers are shrouded in mist here, we’re getting a great shot of both Edward and Alphonse nonetheless. At the very least, it is more than we’ve been able to see before! Coming in 2017 we’ll be getting this take on Hiromu Arakawa’s manga which was made famous stateside primarily by the anime series. This show gives us actor Ryosuke Yamada as Ed and his brother Alphonse who fans of the series know was turned into a giant suit of armor when the pair tried to bring their dead mother back to the land of the living using a form of alchemy which has been forbidden. The story itself follows the two as they search for the fabled philosopher’s stone which would give them the power to restore their bodies to how they were prior to trying to resurrect their mother. Based on Masamune Shirow’s now-classic manga, the upcoming live-action ‘Ghost in the Shell’ film has thus far presented an interesting study in contrasts. While the film has, like most such adaptations, drawn a great deal of scrutiny from fans (especially in the wake of the controversial casting of Scarlett Johansson), there has thus far been remarkably little to actually criticize. We have previously covered the release of a series of TV spots that are as brief as they are cryptic. In addition, we have also reported on the extensive comments offered by producer Avi Arad regarding the film’s story, the thought process behind a number of decisions made in the course of the adaptation, and the specific influences of prior ‘Ghost in the Shell’ works on the film. The upcoming live-action adaptation of ‘Ghost in the Shell’ has been a magnet for fan scrutiny ever since the controversial casting of Scarlett Johansson was announced. Despite the attention the film has been given, only the barest of details have been confirmed regarding the film’s story. During a recent conversation with the media on the film’s set, producer Avi Arad shed a good deal of light on the film’s storyline, the thought process behind it, and the themes the movie will be dealing with. Arad began by confirming which story arc the film is adapting: “It involves Kuze. The Kuze story. The big thing we’re doing here is that we’re not necessarily doing an origins backstory, but we are addressing her sense of self and resolving how she defines herself in terms of memories.
